The Iron Ore Company of Canada (IOC) is a joint venture of Rio Tinto (58.7 per cent), Mitsubishi (26.2 per cent) and the Labrador Iron Ore Royalty Income Fund (15.1 per cent). Managed by the Rio Tinto Iron Ore group, IOC is Canada’s largest iron ore pellet producer, maintaining an open pit mine, a concentrator and iron ore pellet making plant at Labrador City, Newfoundland and Labrador, as well as a 418km railway and port facilities at Sept Îles, Quebec, on the Gulf of St. Lawrence. The Opportunity

We are looking for an Advisor, Aboriginal Relations,  based either in Sept-Iles, Goose Bay or Labrador City, to ensure that local relationships with the Aboriginal Communities representatives are fostered and maintained. You will also provide technical leadership and support to the business, site-based operations and projects groups.

What the role entails 
Reporting to the Director, Workforce Services, Communications and External Relations, you will be responsible for:

• Applying and managing the agreements with Aboriginal Groups representatives consistent with IOC and Rio Tinto Aboriginal Community Engagement Strategy
• Collaborating with IOC and RT Community Relations and other RT Business Units in Canada in the implementation of the Aboriginal Community Engagement Strategy
• Monitoring and supporting local agreements with reference to evolving corporate, social and legislative environments
• Developing long term mutually beneficial relationships with the Aboriginal communities by coordinating and participating in local community events
• Ensuring coordination of activities and initiatives with other colleagues of external relations, HR, operations, HSE and expansion whilst maintaining IOC’s reputation with our local and external stakeholders
• Supporting the local development of Aboriginal communities through training, employment and business opportunities
• Ensuring that contingency plan and potential issues are highlighted to the Manager Aboriginal Relations
• Maintaining an open dialogue and relationship and ensure timely resolution of issues

What you will need for this role 
To be successfully considered for this role, you will have:

• University level education either in anthropology, law, political science, community relations, Human Resources, social or cultural heritage related discipline
• Knowledge of different aboriginals culture and nations
• Good knowledge of Innu (preferred)

Apart from the above mentioned requirements you would also be proficient in English and French with strong mediation, communication and problem solving skills.
