Assistant Professor of Mobile Robotics


The Maersk Mc-Kinney Moller Institute, University of Southern Denmark invites applications for the post of Assistant Professor of Mobile Robotics. The position is available starting September 1, 2014.
The Maersk Mc-Kinney Moller Institute performs intensive research within the field of robotics with the aim of developing robots that can optimize in¬dustrial as well as services and other scientific goals and make signifi¬cant contributions to basic research in areas such as: Biologically-inspired robotics, modular robots, cognitive vision in the context of grasping, object recognition and scene interpretation, applied mathematics for mathematical modeling of mechanical systems and processes as well as for motion planning, Software technology, especially modeling architecture, evolution of software and knowledge management.
The scientists working within these areas collaborate across dis¬ciplines as well as across sectors. The result is an effervescing research and development environment inspired by issues emerging from the surrounding world.
Teaching covers a broader range of technology and science courses related to the research areas.
Responsibilities and tasksThe assistant professor will be affiliated to the Institute’s Cognitive and Applied Robotics group. The foreseen research focus will in particular be on autonomous mobile platforms for outdoor application in precision farming, care of public parks and related tasks requiring sophisticated, safe and robust robotics systems.
The preferred applicant has:
- Elaborated experience in mobile robot platforms for outdoor environments.
- Expertise in software for mechatronics, robot middleware
- Experience with common sensors and actuators and control thereof.
- Interest and experience in co-operations with companies.
- Good communication and organization skills enabling him/her to act as a bridge between academia and industry.
In addition to this, relevant project experience is desirable.
The successful candidate will be expected to contribute to the continued development of our robust outdoor autonomous mobile robotics platforms and to actively participate in the department’s teaching and administrative duties, including supervision of BSc, and MSc students.

An assistant professorship is a 3-year position.

Applications will be assessed by an expert committee. Applicants will be informed of their assessment by the Faculty.
As part of the overall assessment of the applicant’s qualifications, an interview may be applied.
Appointment to this position may also include teaching obligations in regard to related degree programmes.
The successful applicant will be employed in accordance with the agreement between the Ministry of Finance and AC (the Danish Confederation of Professional Associations), Cirkulære om overenskomst for Akademikere i staten 2013
