The Tanzania Electric Supply Company (TANESCO) is focusing on increasing the outreach and service quality of its Energy products for Tanzanian people. Next to its current passion as a leading provider of electricity is to be more efficient customer focused utility for Tanzania and beyond. The Company has the largest electricity generation, transmission and distribution network in Tanzania. In order to reach its goals, the Company will, in the coming years invest heavily in its generation, transmission and distribution network, its business systems and human capital. Chief Financial Officer (1 Post)
Reporting to:     Managing Director
Division:           Finance
POSITION OBJECTIVE
To manage the finance department by leading the effective management of the company assets and liabilities, contribute to organization profitability and sustainability, maintain and enhance organizational development and growth, manage and asses financial performance develop and maintain stakeholder relationships, ensure legal and corporate governance compliance, in order to ensure that the company financial functions support the business objectives of the company
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Manage all financial and revenue functions of the organization including sourcing of financial resources to ensure business growth and continuity
  • Participate in the installation and maintenance of systems in order to ensure that management is provided with accurate, reliable and timely financial and operation records, information and advice to optimize management of cost and revenue.
  • Lead the development of both the operation and capital budget, to ensure compliance with established company parameters and timeliness and provide management with monthly performance report (Actual vs. Budget).
  • Review, constant monitor and implement credit control procedures to ensure that the company account receivables are maintained at the lowest manageable levels
  • Monthly review of regional performance on revenue and debtors, and prepare timely appraisal report in order to ensure the company set KPIs on revenue are attained and management is promptly informed on the respective business unit performance for promptly decision.
  • Review funding mechanisms, forecasts the timing and available of funding to best manage cash flow of the company
  • Implement employee performance management process to ensure optimum employee performance and identify and remedy substandard performance and behavior to ensure that all finance employees are aligned to achieve the department set KPIs.
  • Develop policies and procedure to ensure compliance with statutory, TANESCO and Board requirement for financial records and standards.
  • Close monitor of the head officer treasury functions to ensure that the company cash is adequately safeguarded.
  • Monitor and recommend payment relating to EPP, IPP and other major expenditure relating to capital projects and consultancy in order to ensure that the creditors are paid according to their respective contracts.    
  • Participate and manage preparation of final accounts for accounts falling under finance department, thorough attend Auditors and all audit queries in order to ensure that the auditing is timely completed with a clean opinion.  
KEY KNOWLEDGE, EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS YOU MUST POSSES:
  • B. Com or Degree in Accountancy or its equivalent and a professional Accounting Qualification (CPA (T))
  • Postgraduate qualifications in Business or Corporate Management is an added advantage
  • At least 8 years of working experience in the field with five years in a senior position managing the finance function.
DURATION OF CONTRACT
Three (3) years including six months of probation, renewable subject to satisfactory performance.
