The University of Southern Denmark invites applications for a position as assistant professor of political science associated with the project NICE Welfare. The position will begin August 1, 2014 or soon thereafter.

NICE Welfare is a newly established interdisciplinary project consortium located at the University of Southern Denmark.

The position offered is a 3-year assistant professorship in Political Science or Social Sciences with a focus on labour market inequality and/or political behaviour. To qualify for the position, the applicants must hold a PhD degree in political science or social science and have demonstrated good research competences in one of the following research areas:  
  • Comparative political economy
  • Political behaviour
  • Political psychology
  • Political sociology
  • Social policy
  • Labour market sociology

The main assignments of an assistant professor at the Department of Political Science and Public Management are research and research-based teaching, and to a minor extent administrative tasks will be connected to the position. Applicants are expected to possess experience with teaching, and as an assistant professor improve their teaching qualifications.

Candidates should possess systematic methodological skills (quantitative or qualitative) and have demonstrated the ability for independent research. As an assistant professor, you will have to develop an international research profile. The preferred applicants will have the potential to build national and international research collaboration as well as publish genuine academic contributions through peer-reviewed channels within the relevant field of research.

Applicants are expected to participate actively in the research programme NICE Welfare and to engage in research activities as part of an internationally oriented and innovative research group. The successful candidate will become part of a dynamic research and teaching environment. It is expected that candidates will be a dedicated part of the everyday academic and social environment at the department, and foreign appointees should be interested in learning the Danish language at a basic level. In return, you will be given the opportunity to excel in your academic field as well as to develop your personal skills. More specifically, work obligations will include:

  • Research and publications in international peer-reviewed journals
  • Contribution to formulating an application for an externally funded research project (in collaboration with the NICE program leaders) 
  • Active participation in the organization of seminars and workshops and in international cooperation
  • Teaching within the Department of Political Science and Public Management and the Master programme “Comparative Public Policy and Welfare Studies”

Appointment to the position requires a PhD or equivalent and will be in accordance with the salary agreement between the Ministry of Finance and the Danish Confederation of Professional Associations.

  • Complete list of publications, indicating which publications are most relevant for the position

Assessment of applications will be done under existing Appointment Order for universities.
Applications will be assessed by an assessment committee. The committee may request additional information, and if so, it is the responsibility of the applicant to provide the necessary material.
When the assessment committee has submitted its report, the applicant will receive the part of the evaluation that concerns him/her.
Applications that are incomplete with regard to the above requirements will not be assessed by the committee.
