The Financial Conduct Authority (FCA) is responsible for regulating the UK financial services industry. We are an essential part of the new structure of UK regulation and are striving to make financial markets work well to ensure a fair deal for consumers. Join the Chief Economist’s Department (CED) at this exciting time for our organisation, and you will undertake work that has a profound impact on people’s lives. 

This is your chance to work on regulatory policy development and competition issues in both retail and wholesale markets. You will lead on strategies to embed our new ‘integrated analysis’ approach in the FCA’s policy work, and see your efforts make a positive difference to policy making. We’ll also look to you to advise on economic problems in markets and develop methodologies to analyse them. 

Working in a rapidly changing and developing environment, you will contribute to the Competition Department’s market studies. The CED is the FCA’s central team of economists, and you will play your part in its programme of high quality and policy relevant research. As well as representing the organisation to external stakeholders, this senior role will involve leading and developing more junior colleagues. 

Crucial to your success will be the ability to juggle the demands of contributing to concurrent projects of differing sizes and develop effective and professional working relationships with non-economist colleagues. Your proven track record of delivering analytical projects and significant expertise in economic analysis should be backed up by a postgraduate degree in economics or a first degree plus considerable experience.
