The Tanzania ElectricSupply Company (TANESCO) is focusing on increasing the outreach and service quality of its Energy products for Tanzanian people. The Company has the largest electricity generation, transmission and distribution network in Tanzania. Deputy Managing Director - Transmission  (1 Post)
Reporting to:     Managing Director
Division:           Transmission
POSITION OBJECTIVE
Planning and implementing Company’s goals and objectives so as to achieve its vision and mission for the Transmission Business unit. This involves directing, planning and implementation of the power system expansion, including generation and transmission to meet the growing demand as well as operating and maintaining the existing power system.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Direct the design of the transmission business plans and direct implementation of the transmission business plan to meet the set targets.
  • Direct transmission procurement activities for power system expansion and maintenance of the existing system, involving various studies, implementation of projects & maintenance works and, acquisition of tools & spare parts.
  • Direct the preparation of demand forecast followed by a generation plan and ensure optimal dispatch of all generation plants in accordance with the demand.
  • Direct safe, efficient and reliable operation and maintenance of the transmission network that involves transformers, switchgears, protection and communication equipment to ensure a high level of availability and reliability of the power system.
  • Direct efficient maintenance of the transmission network, which includes transmission lines and transmission substations that involves transformers, switchgears, protection and communication equipment to ensure a high level of availability and reliability of the power system.
  • Direct commercial contract negotiations for new Power Purchase Agreements (PPA), Power Supply Agreements (PSA), and gas negotiations as well as management of the contracts to ensure minimization of costs to the company.
  • Direct the preparation, periodic updating and implementation of the Power System Master Plan (PSMP) that shows a long-term roadmap for the least cost power system expansion plan covering generation and transmission.
  • Direct feasibility studies for power system expansion projects, including environmental studies and solicitation of financing for the projects as well as the implementation of major projects for power system expansion, rehabilitations and maintenance.
  • Direct the preparation and updating of tariff studies and interact with the electricity regulator so as to establish cost reflective tariffs for the company.
  • Direct applied research on appropriate technologies like alternative and renewable energy technologies, power quality improvement and promotion of low cost electrification technologies
  • Construction and maintenance of company buildings
  • Maintain an appropriate organization structure with adequate staff based on company’s needs and priorities and management of staff in the transmission business unit
  • Plan and implement staff development training.
  • Preparation and submission of relevant managerial and technical reports related to the transmission business unit operations.
KEY KNOWLEDGE, EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS YOU MUST POSSES:
  • A good bachelor degree in Engineering or equivalent with post graduate studies in professional business management studies as an added advantage.
  • A registered Engineer.
  • At least 10 years of working experience in the field with five years in a senior position in a large or reputable organization.
