FELLOWSHIP PROGRAM FOR DOCTORAL CANDIDATES AND POST-DOC RESEARCHERS
RIO DE JANEIRO LAW SCHOOL – FGV DIREITO RIO
FGV DIREITO RIO is pleased to announce a new fellowship program to attract and support a selected number of highly qualified doctoral and post-doc scholars working in areas related to the FGV Direito Rio research centers.
The FGV Direito Rio 2014-2015 Fellowship Program seeks to offer the world’s best economic and intellectual resources to attract and support some of the most insightful and promising legal minds in the globe.
Fellowships will begin in August and run through the end of December, and from January through the end of May. The deadline for application to the 2014-2015 Fellowship Program is May 10, 2014.
Doctoral candidates in the writing phase of their dissertation and post-doc students from all nationalities are encouraged to apply.
Research fellows will be hosted by one of the four research centers at FGV Direito Rio.
1. SELECTION PROCESS
The selection process will follow two stages:
(a) Evaluation of documents

- Research proposal and/or a summary of the thesis (maximum 5,000 characters)
(b) Interview
- Analysis of letter of reference
- Online interview
FGV Direito Rio will release the final results of the selective process by May 31, 2014.
2. ELIGIBILITY
a. Individuals from any nationality.
b. Currently pursuing or already holding a doctoral degree (in law or other discipline).

4. RECRUITMENT
The Fellowship Program will begin in early August 2014.
Selected candidates are expected to submit to the Human Resources Department of FGV DIREITO RIO, a list of documents and sign the fellowship agreement.
Non-Brazilian candidates are responsible for obtaining the appropriate visa.
2013-2014 Fellows will be based at FGV DIREITO RIO.
5. FELLOWSHIP AMOUNTS (PER SEMESTER)
Fellowship for doctoral candidates: R$ 36.000,00, paid in six installments of R$ 6.000,00 (equivalent to around US$ 16,200 per semester, considering April 14, 2014 exchange rate).
Fellowship for doctors: R$ 45.000,00 (equivalent to around US$ 20,300 per semester, considering April 14, 2014 exchange rate), paid in six installments of R$ 7.500,00.
First installment for all fellowships will be paid before the beginning of the program, to eventually cover candidate’s travel and initial living expenses.
6. DURATION OF FELLOWSHIP
One academic semester (August-December 2014), renewable for a second semester.
7. FELLOWSHIP – ACTIVITIES’ DESCRIPTION
The candidate will join one of the four Research Centers at FGV DIREITO RIO:
a. Centre for Justice and Society
b. Centre for Law and the Environment
c. Centre for Technology and Society; and
d. Centre for Research in Law and Economics
Upon their arrival, selected fellows are expected to elaborate a short study plan describing the activities he/she expects to develop throughout the semester.
Research Fellows are welcome to present their own work at the schools forums and join ongoing research in areas of interest. They might also (i) give lectures on both graduate and post-graduate programs on a subject of their interest; (ii) promote professional coaching for students of the graduate and masters programs; (iii) participate in commissions, meeting or strategic events of the school, by invitation; among other possibilities.
