MEMBERSHIP OF THE BOARD

The Global Development Innovation Ventures Program (GDIV) is a cutting edge new initiative that seeks to accelerate the development, rigorous testing, and scaling of cost effective innovations in both the public and private sectors. Its aim is to support a portfolio of innovations that collectively open up opportunities and improve lives for hundreds of millions of people across multiple developing countries.
GDIV is currently being established through a new independent not-for-profit organization. GDIV’s design is being led by its founding financial partners, the UK’s Department for International Development and the United States Agency for International Development.
GDIV will run an open competition and will be deliberately open across relevant sectors and countries.  To manage the risks inherent in innovation, GDIV will employ a staged financing model to support initial field testing, rigorously test at larger scale, and to help those approaches with evidence of the most dramatic impact to grow to widespread scale. GDIV will also “crowd in” a global network of private investors, foundations and donors with resources to bring proven concepts to widespread adoption. In doing so, GDIV will develop a pipeline of investment-ready innovations, providing a focus for social investors and unlocking commercial capital.
GDIV is modeled after the U.S. Agency for International Development’s (USAID’s) Development Innovation Ventures (DIV) (see www.usaid.gov/DIV).  GDIV will include several new features, including provision of technical assistance to innovators, an enhanced ability to reach out to innovators in the developing world through a network of intermediary organizations, a matchmaking capacity, and the opportunity to provide more flexible forms of capital.
