Policy Manager (Tax & Inequality)

Oxfam GB

Oxford, United Kingdom

(Reference: CAP0031)

This position is based in Oxford with the option to work in London for up to 3 days per week.
Inequality is one of the greatest injustices of our times. The richest 85 people in the world have as much wealth as the poorest half of the global population, and too many rules are rigged against the poorest. Oxfam’s new global campaign will work to end extreme inequality and poverty, through fairer taxation, public services and other policy interventions. With your help, we can make a difference.

The role

You will be responsible for bringing together Oxfam GB’s policy experts to develop policy and to identify opportunities, campaigning for an end to the extreme gap between rich and poor. You will also lead specifically on our tax and fiscal justice policy work, identifying policy and political opportunities, and working to deliver advocacy and lobby work at a national, Europe-wide and global level. You will lead on policy and advocacy projects at key moments, and you will be responsible for commissioning and producing new research and advocacy products to support our change strategies. You will build alliances and work with our colleagues across the world in Oxfam, and work with campaigns and communications teams, maximising our impact together through campaigning. The work you do will enable our campaign to be at its most strategic in tackling the root causes of poverty and inequality.

What we’re looking for

You will bring a strong background in political analysis, policy development and strategy, and proven management and leadership experience. You will have expertise in understanding of tax policy and advocacy work, as well as an understanding of other policy issues and trends related to development finance and public services. Experience of advocacy is essential, as is experience of working internationally, including in or with teams based in the global south. You’ll also need to be a clear and strategic thinker with experience of lobbying key targets across government, international institutions and the private sector; someone who knows how to act to influence successfully at the highest levels. Well-developed interpersonal skills and a talent for communicating with diverse audiences are therefore essential. We’ll also expect you to share our passion and commitment to eradicating extreme inequality, and a commitment to changing the rules that keep some people poor whilst others prosper.

About Oxfam

A simple, inescapable truth underlines everything we do at Oxfam. There’s enough wealth in this world to go around. It’s not unfortunate that people live in poverty. It’s unjustifiable. It’s not just their problem. It’s ours too. And with the right support, we can beat poverty and injustice. Thousands of people already commit their time and talents to our campaigning, humanitarian and long-term development projects. Now we’re looking for yours.
