Communications Specialist

The International Land Coalition (ILC) is a global alliance of civil society and intergovernmental organizations working together to promote secure and equitable access to and control over land for poor women and men through advocacy, dialogue, knowledge sharing, and capacity building.The International Land Coalition is a global action network and was established to put land access issues on the international agenda. What sets it apart, however, is the way in which it does this ¿ as a global alliance of civil society and intergovernmental organizations (CSOs and IGOs) working together in advocacy, dialogue and capacity building. These characteristics therefore make communication a crucial foundation for ILC. The Communication Strategy takes a strategic approach to communication that supports ILC in achieving the directions and objectives outlined in the Strategic Framework 2011-2015. It responds to the needs identified in the Strategic Framework to:
  • strengthen ILC's policy dialogue and advocacy, including through building the capacity of members and partners with an effective external communication which build awareness on land concerns within rural development;
  • facilitate network growth and development with better internal communication and knowledge sharing;
  • attract a broader membership and resource base.
Communication is integrated into the design, implementation and measurement of ILC's programmes and initiatives. This is outlined in the objectives and principles on how ILC will communicate. The strategy provides direction for the tactics and tools to be used to engage with ILC's audiences.
Communication will serve the ILC mandate and facilitate the achievement of its objectives. The ILC network is composed of different constituencies. Regions are organised around regional platforms and their work is facilitated by the Regional Coordination Units bases in Indonesia, Peru and Zimbabwe and hosted by ILC members. Each Regional Coordination Units embrace competencies on communication and networking performed by the regional communication officers.
