Basic Function of Position
Jobholder is responsible for the overall development, coordination, and direction of the U.S. Mission to the EU’s (USEU) digital communication strategy and the management of Mission social media platforms and works with the Public Affairs and policy teams to develop the long-term strategies on digital communication that support Mission and Department policy priorities. Working in a team of three with the Assistant Information Officer and Social Media Information Assistant, s/he coordinates the execution of these strategies by working with policy teams to create compelling content that connects with USEU’s core EU audience and in the design of digital content, campaigns and events tailored to USEU’s audiences. Duties include designing new social media strategies for the Mission and vetting suggestions for content from colleagues in Public Affairs and the Mission as a whole.
Responsible to develop and maintain key relationships with the Social Media Network (a network of social media professionals from throughout the EU institutions) to facilitate enhanced coordination on Mission’s digital engagement initiatives. Provides guidance/training on best practices regarding Department of State digital communication strategy to Mission’s sections. Takes the lead in developing contacts with counterparts in EU institutions and other relevant offices (as well as relevant independent bloggers), producing reports as needed.
As a member of the press team, the jobholder works with press team members in support of the full range of section programming and is the portfolio lead for environmental affairs. Press team duties include but are not limited to planning and executing press briefings and conferences, supporting the public affairs needs of visiting U.S. government officials, and responding to press inquiries upon request. The incumbent participates in policy cluster meetings, and is expected to be fully conversant with the broad scope of U.S. policy, U.S.-EU relations, and the Mission’s activities. Acts as photographer or videographer as needed, and will also assist with Press Office functions and logistics when required.
