The Clean Clothes Campaign is dedicated to improving working conditions in the global garment industry. In the twenty years of our existence an extensive and effective global network of some 250 trade unions and NGO's has been created with campaign secretariats in 15 European countries. Our office in Amsterdam is shared by two highly motivated teams: the Clean Clothes Campaign International Secretariat (CCC) and the Dutch Secretariat, the Schone Kleren Campagne (SKC). In the last 18 months CCC has been at the heart of major developments around corporate accountability after the devastating collapse of the Rana Plaza factory building in Bangladesh. The growth in focus on the garment industry and the development of corporate accountability mechanisms such as the Accord on Fire and Building Safety in Bangladesh, the Indonesian Protocol on Freedom of Association and the ongoing implementation of the UN Guiding Principles on Business and Human Rights has meant a lot of exciting developments as well as new challenges.
Due to both these external developments as well as the departure of a key policy specialist earlier this year the CCC International Secretariat is currently looking for an experienced policy specialist to provide support in the area of corporate accountability and labour law (CALL) with a specific focus on living wages.
As the International Secretariat is currently reviewing its priorities and operating structures to ensure it is able to respond to future developments in the most effective way, this post is initially for 6 – 12 months. When this reviewing process has concluded there is a possibility that the contract will be extended.
Tasks and responsibilities include:
• Monitoring developments in the CALL field relating to garment workers and providing monthly updates for the CCC network on developments relating to living wage, supply chain responsibility and social security;
• Providing regular updates for the CCC network on developments in key companies and multi stakeholder programmes on the implementation of a living wage;
• In consultation with the network write CCC position statements on key living wage developments;
• Providing an overview of the implementation process of the UN Guiding Principles on Business and Human Rights;
• Represent CCC in lobbying and advocacy settings including but not restricted to multi-stakeholder initiatives, corporate meetings and government panels;
• Representing CCC in responding to policy enquiries from media or members of the public;
• Participating in CCC International Secretariat staff meetings (once every 4 – 6 weeks)
• Providing regular updates for the CCC network on developments in key companies and multi stakeholder programmes on the implementation of a living wage;

We ask:
Essential (please do not apply if you do not have these):
• at least five years experience in a relevant position
• extensive knowlegde of corporate accountability and/or labour law issues in international supply chains
• demonstrable experience of lobbying governments; MSIs and / or companies;
• experience in working in an (international) network setting;
• strong writing and communication skills;
• near-native speaker level English skills;
• ability to take initiative and work independently
• willingness and ability to undertake overseas travel
• have a valid work and residence permit for the Netherlands
Essential (please do not apply if you do not have these):

We offer:
• a dynamic job in a non-hierarchical organisation and within an inspiring international network;
• we are willing to consider offering this role as either a short term contract (9 months to one year) or on a freelance basis; however as a freelancer we would still be looking for a commitment to 4 days a week and for no shorter period than 6 months.
