About the Role Adam Smith International continues to strengthen our in-house education capacity and appoint a senior project manager to support our existing portfolio of education projects.
The successful candidate will be responsible for:
  • Providing additional support from London and in the field to those charged with delivering our existing portfolio of education projects;
  • Identifying, tracking and securing new project opportunities in the education field;
  • Sourcing additional advisers and building alliances to deliver existing and future work in the education field;
  • Developing and implementing innovative, pioneering and evidence-based approaches to education reform.
Project Managers perform a key role in Adam Smith International's consulting model and play a central part in managing project implementation and financial performance. A Senior Project Manager is also expected to deliver advisory and business development efforts through engaging with our Government clients on technical issues, and preparing technical and financial proposals and expressions of interest. All our team members play a key part in developing new business for the company. You should be confident and capable in leading business development activities and converting these into contracts. You potentially bring established relationships with donor organisations and freelance associates. The position will be based in London but requires extensive travel to support our education work in Africa and South Asia. About You As a Senior Project Manager you should have proven abilities to build effective relationships with clients from a wide range of professional and cultural backgrounds, and to work effectively in politically sensitive and challenging environments. You should relish working in a team, should be innovative, energetic, positive, and genuinely committed to achieving lasting change. Adam Smith International seeks the following skills and experience: » A post-graduate degree in economics, public administration, public policy, tax policy, public financial management or other relevant fields from a top class university; » We also encourage applications from students of history, classics, languages and other arts based subjects who have excellent degrees from elite universities; » A track record of working in one of the professions, in development or in consultancy. You are unlikely to join us directly from the teaching profession; » A demonstrable interest in education reform and a knowledge of and interest in the world of development; » Experience of working in developing countries; » Demonstrated experience of initiative, entrepreneurial mindset, client- orientation, risk taking, and working in complex and time-pressured contexts; » Outstanding English written and oral communication skills with additional languages; » Excellent inter-personal skills and team- work; » Strong attention to detail; » Enthusiasm and flexibility along with a willingness to travel at short notice and work in developing countries for a significant time; » Excellent IT skills including Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Project and Visio.
