Campaigns Director in Philippines

Change.org offers the world’s most powerful organising tools to every potential citizen-activist and NGO. We are a global organisation that provides a platform for millions of people around the world to start, join and win campaigns for social change on the issues they care about. 10,000 campaigns are started on our site every month, on issues from the environment and health to human rights and social justice. Because so many of these campaigns win, we’re growing exponentially. Globally, we’re up to 8 million members and are now building a core team to launch in the Philippines.

The Campaigns Director will lead all of our advocacy and campaigning efforts in the Philippines. You’ll craft and execute rapid-response campaigns in Filipino. You’ll make a huge impact as you help millions of people start and successfully run their own local campaigns for positive social change. Your work will help inspire the Philippines with a deep belief that people-powered change is possible.

Job Description and Duties

The Campaigns Director will be responsible for establishing Change.org in the Philipinnes. You will spot breakthrough campaigns on the Change.org platform with a significant chance of achieving important social change. You'll then help campaign creators to use whatever strategies and tactics are necessary to win. You will report to the Vice-President of Global Campaigns and over time, recruit and manage a small team in the Philippines. Your responsibilities will include:
• Identifying promising grassroots campaigns started by activists in the Philippines on local or regional issues. You’ll help these campaigns win by providing strategic advice, conducting media outreach, and promoting them to Change.org Philippines members via email.
• Designing and executing rapid-response social change advocacy campaigns in partnership with other stakeholders, with the potential for explosive growth and swift victories. This includes writing engaging campaign emails.
• Establishing and maintaining deep partnerships with leading NGOs - local, national, and global in scope. You’ll be a trusted advisor and useful ally, helping large and small organisations run campaigns on Change.org.
• Recruiting, training and managing a team of field organisers and campaigners as Change.org grows in the Philippines.
• Collaborating with a global team of campaigners to help shape the direction of Change.org internationally.
The ideal candidate should have the following core competencies:
• A deep understanding of campaigning and a commitment to our mission of empowering people to win campaigns on the critical issues of our times. You believe people can stop injustice and change the world and you’ve shown it by your past involvement in social change work.
• Exceptional writing skills in Filipino, able to craft compelling and persuasive written communication for a general audience.
• Decent written and spoken fluency in English, to enable effective participation in the Change.org global team.
• You should enjoy working in an online environment, using social media and collaborating using online tools.
• Strong leadership and persuasiveness skills. You’ll be able to inspire people to understand the possibilities of people-powered change.
• The ability to build and manage a small team, bringing out the best in them.
• Impact-driven. You’ll work outside your comfort zone to do what it takes to win campaigns.
• A track record of good judgement. You’re able to make sound decisions in fast-moving situations.
• Strong rapport-building and relationship skills. You can effectively build and maintain partnerships and be a trusted ally amongst social change campaigners.
• Initiative and a can-do attitude across a variety of campaign issue areas.
• Able to identify and seize opportunities quickly. Online campaigning is very moment-driven, so you’ll be comfortable working in an agile and fast-paced environment.
• High-level strategic thinker, with a strong grasp of politics and power. You understand the political and corporate pressure points in the Philippines and current social justice, economic and environmental issues at play.

Change.org is an exceptionally fast-paced and collaborative work environment. Your co-workers are high-impact, low-ego, and have a deep respect for our members. Normally, Campaigns Directors will have relevant experience in advocacy, media or government – but if you make up for lack of experience with passion and a willingness to learn quickly, you should still apply.

We’re an equal opportunity employer, which means we strongly encourage any interested parties to apply – we don’t discriminate on the basis of age, race, religion, sexual orientation, gender identity or physical disability.

Location is Manila, but may be flexible for the right candidate. Pay and benefits are very competitive. The initial contract is for one year but there’s a strong expectation that this will lead to a longer-term commitment.

We will read every application and follow up directly if interested. Please be honest and thoughtful in your answers, and detail why you would be particularly well suited to the role.

Applications close 1st March 2012.
