JOB SUMMARY

The Medical Associate will provide leadership and support for strengthening and intensifying Fistula Care repair and integration activities as assigned. S/he will be responsible for working closely with the Deputy Project Manager, who is based in the Sokoto field office, to provide overall strategic leadership for the medical and technical performance of integrated interventions for the fistula prevention; repair and reintegration program in Nigeria.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Provide overall strategic leadership for the medical and technical performance of integrated interventions for the fistula prevention; repair and reintegration program in Southern Nigeria.

  • Works closely with the FMOH and Southern states MOH (in collaboration with other project staff) and local providers and trainers, to ensure achievement goals.

  • Work collaboratively with the Country Project Manager and Deputy Project Manager to develop and implement the obstetric fistula service delivery program activities in supported states in North Central and South of Nigeria

  • Work, under the guidance of the Deputy Project Manager on and along with the National Obstetric Fistula Working Group for the establishment of a national fistula training program to improve provider skills and strengthen providers’ technical competence.

  • Work with National and state levels key stakeholders to influence decisions on development of appropriate policies, guidelines and standards of practice on fistula and related issues

  • Work with the Project Manager in developing and guiding Advocacy activities of the project

  • Perform all other duties as assigned

EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE & CERTIFICATIONS

§ Clinical Degree with specialization as gynecologist preferred

§ At least 10 years of relevant work experience in developing countries in (maternal) health service delivery

§ Experience in fistula surgery

§ Trainer or Trainer’s certificate in Reproductive Health desirable

§ Certified registration with Nigeria Medical Association or other recognized body

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES

§ Demonstrated experience in medical practice in Nigeria

§ Experience with and understanding of MOH structure/systems, and with USAID-funded projects.

§ Knowledge of Reproductive Health issues in Nigeria

§ Demonstrated ability to lead and work collegially with other technical staff, experts, and with counterparts from the public, private and NGO sectors.

§ Demonstrated understanding of policy development process and measuring progress within a policy framework

§ Ability to direct advocacy process within the health sector

§ Demonstrated expertise in training, including participatory training and adult-learning theory and practice

§ Exceptional interpersonal communication, teamwork skills.

§ Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English language proficiency.
