Director Corporate Affairs Australia

Barrick’s Australia Pacific Regional Business Unit (RBU) covers operations and projects in Australia, Papua New Guinea, Zambia and the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.
The role of the Director, Corporate Affairs is to provide site level leadership to the Australia Pacific RBU on Corporate Affairs, while aligning to Corporate strategy, with an emphasis on stakeholder engagement, managing reputational risks, and supporting CR-related communications, both internally and externally.
Key to this function is the ability to effectively engage with a wide range of external stakeholders, including NGOs, Indigenous communities, regulators, governments, industry associations and CSR organizations.
The Director collaborates with a range of functions at the RBU, Corporate office and other RBUs in Barrick’s global operations, including HR, Supply Chain , Community Relations, CSR, Legal, Permitting, Environment and Government Affairs.
This position will be located at the Regional Head Office, Perth, Western Australia.
The position reports to the Regional President, AUSPAC RBU. This position has Community Relations, Communications, CSR, and Government Relations as part of the portfolio.
EXPERIENCE & REQUIREMENTS:
Extensive, proven experience working on CSR in a mining context is mandatory for this role; 10 years minimum experience
  • Fluency in English
  • Proven success in developing and implementing CSR strategies for a large global company, ideally in the extractive industries;
  • Experience with both developed and developing countries, especially in Australia, PNG, Africa and KSA
  • Experience within the regulatory and permitting environment.
  • Experience in engagement with local communities, especially in PNG and Zambia
  • Experience in developing and implementing CSR-related communication programs;
  • Extensive knowledge of CSR standards and institutions, particularly those related to extractive industries;
  • Knowledge of international best practice in CSR;
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills;
  • A proven ability to be proactive and innovative within a dynamic environment;
  • Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively, and across a range of levels and internationally;
  • An ability to facilitate organizational learning across a large global company;
  • Ability to work effectively, both independently as well as part of a team;
  • An ability to undertake occasional travel, including to areas of minimal development.
