Executive and Internal Communications Officer Washington, DC

The Executive and Internal Communications Officer, will serve as the lead writer for the President and CEO of the Elizabeth Glaser Pediatric AIDS Foundation and other selected leaders on the Board of Directors and Senior Leadership Team, as well provide key support for related strategic media outreach activities. Working closely with Communications leadership and the Office of the President, the Officer will create and implement an executive communications strategy for the CEO of the Elizabeth Glaser Pediatric AIDS Foundation, and others, to position the Foundation as a thought leader in the fight against pediatric AIDS. The Officer will help coordinate executive speaking opportunities and media outreach for the senior leadership team of the Foundation, and will also be responsible for identifying, conceptualizing, and writing key communications publications, articles, and other editorial materials.


Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
• Generate original ideas and compelling approaches for written communications, including but not limited to: speeches, statements, video scripts, blogs, op-eds, articles, correspondence, proposals, Board communications, program briefings, and presentations.
• Conceptualize, write, and edit compelling, actionable copy that is accurate and easy-to-read.
• Tailor communications to different audiences, channels and media.
• Identify speaking opportunities for CEO and other senior leadership, and work to proactively secure those opportunities, including media outlets, conferences and other fora. Write compelling speeches for delivery, and work with speakers on delivery.
• Work with Communications Department, Development, and Public Policy Departments to identify venues and publications for statements, op-eds, and articles.
• Conceptualize and write other editorial products, in particular (but not limited to) fact sheets, brochures, and political communications for Congressional staff, UN entities, and other audiences.
• Conduct research, interviews, online searches, and other forms of research to collect appropriate content.
• Assist Senior Media Relations Manager to generate strong press coverage with key U.S. and international media on global advocacy, public policy, and programmatic efforts.
• Assist with message and story development and media training.
• Assist Senior Regional Communications Officer with communications activities in Africa region.

Required Qualifications:
• At least 5-7 years relevant experience, with particular preference toward experience in media, international NGO, government agency, Capitol Hill, or UN entity. Overseas experience (in particular in Africa), would be a benefit.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
• Extensive speechwriting experience.
• Global health and public policy experience preferred, particularly in the HIV/AIDS sector.
• Overseas experience strongly preferred.
• Experience working closely with senior leadership in high-pressure, deadline-driven environments.
• Ability to speak French preferred.
• Creative flair mixed with attention to detail.
• Self-starter with ability to see the big picture.
• Flexibility and adaptability to changing situations.
• Ability to travel up to 30% domestic and internationally required.
