GRM International , International Development – Project Manager

- Manage projects funded by DFID, USAID and AusAID

Do you have what it takes to manage projects in developing countries? Following the company’s global expansion, GRM International is currently seeking Project Managers for one of the company’s key global offices in Central London. Your primary responsibilities will revolve around three major areas – Business Development, Project Management and HR Management.

The Basics:

  • Start date: April 2012.
  • Location: Close to Old Street tube station, Central London, with travel to other global GRM offices and project countries. As a truly global business, GRM offers staff the opportunity to get involved in development projects across the globe and work with the three top bilateral donors; DFID, AusAID and USAID.

  • Reporting to: Regional Director for Central Asia, West Africa and Southern Africa.

More on the role:
This exciting opportunity will require you to have considerable experience in a similar role. You will oversee and closely manage all GRM contractual obligations and the development of all procedures for assigned projects. You will ensure that projects are delivered efficiently, innovatively, on time and within budget. You will also be expected to pursue new business development opportunities and be able to prepare and lead on bid/tender proposals, demonstrate sound Business Development acumen and skills.

In this role you will be expected to:
Project Manage bilateral development projects:

  • Manage contracts for specific projects and consultancies.
  • Scope, plan, schedule, resource and cost.
  • Develop project budget and manage cash flow and forecasts.
  • Determine performance standards and milestones for project.
  • Develop, maintain and review project management systems.
  • Monitor and anticipate/identify project performance issues.
  • Report on project progress.
  • Project administration in accordance with GRM requirements.
  • Participate in selection interviews.
  • Identify opportunities for process/product improvement.
  • Identify opportunities for profit maximisation.

Work with business development/bid team to identify future business opportunities:

  • Liaise and build relationships with clients.
  • Identify and resolve significant contract issues.
  • Manage Team Leader/project team including induction, mobilisation, supervision and performance.
  • Train staff in GRM project methodology.
  • Build a cohesive and multi-skilled team.
  • Work collaboratively with peers.
  • Undertake people management activities in accordance with the firm’s requirements.

Minimum education and experience required:

  • Relevant Bachelor’s degree; Master’s degree (preferred).
  • Considerable experience in a similar role.
  • Extensive DFID project management experience, including managing long and short term consultants, project start, achieving milestones and interpreting project plans.
  • Substantial experience of people management, including setting clear performance objectives, managing for results, giving and receiving feedback, performance evaluation, and mentoring and coaching consultants/employees.
  • Long term experience in a developing country or similar environment.

Key competencies and professional expertise required

  • Formal project management training and expertise.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong technical writing skills.
  • Ability to conceptualize and write a bid proposal or project report.
  • Sound business development and client relationship management skills.
  • Financial acumen and the ability to interpret and analyse financial reports.
  • Sound problem solving and decision making skills.
  • Willingness to travel and work abroad a minimum of eight weeks per year in developing countries and elsewhere.
  • Work autonomously and as a part of a team when required.
