The IRCT is a health-based umbrella organisation that supports the rehabilitation of torture victims and the prevention of torture worldwide.

Our members currently comprise 145 independent organisations in 74 countries. Our work is governed by these member organisations. Today, we are the largest membership-based civil society organisation to work in the field of torture rehabilitation and prevention.

Background

The International Rehabilitation Council for Torture Victims (IRCT) is currently recruiting a highly experienced professional to support the development of the organisation and its membership worldwide. The Head of Membership will lead our capacity development efforts within the organisation worldwide.

Based in Copenhagen, Denmark, the Membership Team of the IRCT supports and collaborates with a global network of rehabilitation centres and programmes represented in every region of the world.

The position

The Head of Membership Team plays a pivotal role at the Secretariat of the IRCT. Number one priority is capacity development of the IRCTs member centres. The Head of Membership Team must develop a membership strategy as foundation for growth and development of current and future members as well as for the IRCT as a membership organisation. The Head of Membership Team plays a leading role in developing and implementing the strategy and unites the endeavours of the staff of the IRCT Secretariat with the member centres.

Key responsibilities

  • Capacity development of member centres;
  • Strategic planning and progress monitoring;
  • Ensuring the active access and engagement of the membership and provision of adequate services;
  • Management of the Membership Team;
  • Advisory role to the Secretary-General;
  • Support to and collaboration with other teams and Head of Teams at the IRCT Secretariat.

Knowledge and experience

  • 10+ years’ international experience from a global civil society organisation in capacity development at senior level;
  • 5 + years’ experience working in an international membership based organisation;
  • Proven ability to drive capacity development;
  • Documented experience in strategy development;
  • Documented record of implementation of programmes globally;
  • Knowledge of various donor requirements;
  • Cultural and political awareness;
  • Experience of international advocacy.

Management skills

  • 10+ years of leadership experience in a civil society organisation;
  • 5 + years of senior level management and team leadership experience;
  • Substantial experience in problem solving on a day-to-day basis and in crisis situations;
  • Experience in resource planning;
  • Excellent management of multiple projects globally.

Personal skills and communication

  • Excellent interpersonal skills;
  • Fluency in both written and spoken English;
  • Knowledge of Spanish and/or French is an advantage.

Other prerequisites

  • University degree, (likely within human rights, international development, health or torture rehabilitation and prevention).

Remuneration

The Head of Membership Team will be offered a competitive salary with allowances.

The Head of membership Team will be offered a 3-year contract and will be expected to take residence in Denmark.
