Agricultural Research Council Of South Africa Jobs

The Agricultural Research Council (ARC) is a Research and Development Institution of excellence in South Africa, which operates within the National System of Innovation. The ARC has a mandate for innovative and creative agricultural research, technology development and transfer aimed at the advancement of South African agriculture. Its operations are overseen by the ARC Council appointed by and accountable to the Minister of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries.

The ARC seeks to appoint experienced and dynamic people to the following position based at the ARC-Institute for Agricultural Engineering (ARC-IAE) in Silverton, Pretoria:

Agricultural Engineer

The ideal candidate will be supporting the following programmes:

  • Agricultural Water Use and Conservation
  • Renewable Energy
  • Agriculture Structures and Infrastructure
  • Agricultural Mechanisation
  • Post-harvest Engineering and Storage
  • Precision Agriculture and Automation.

Key performance areas:

  • Participate in project planning and identification of new projects within the Institute’s strategic programme
  • Conduct research, data analysis as well as technology transfer in the identified projects
  • Contribute in marketing the programme for income generation
  • Assist in compiling reports and manage project budgets
  • Read and interpret engineering drawings and construct prototype agricultural engineering equipment and structures based on drawings.

Requirements:

  • B Engineering or Master's degree in Agricultural Engineering • Registration as a Professional Engineer with the Engineering Council of South Africa (ECSA) will be an added advantage
  • Preference will be given to applicants who are qualified Agricultural Engineers, whilst consideration will be given to applicants who are trained as Civil or Mechanical Engineers, with proven exposure to the agricultural sector
  • Valid Code 08 (EB) driver’s licence.

Competitive remuneration packages will be congruent with the scope, responsibilities and the stature of the positions.
