Background / General description:

The development of infrastructure in Sub-Saharan Africa is a top strategic priority for IFC and for the international development community. The IFC is launching a special initiative to strengthen its ability to contribute to development of infrastructure in Sub-Saharan Africa. IFC is seeking an Investment Officer to support the development, execution and monitoring of investments in infrastructure (power, transport, and non-power utilities) in the region through this initiative.IFC is today a leader in this area and seeks to substantially expand its activities in the region in these sectors. The position provides an opportunity to obtain company, project and sector experience in a specialized, growing and high impact area. Some travel in the region will be required.

Duties and Accountabilities:
The responsibilities of the Investment Officer include but are not limited to:

-Working with colleagues to develop a strong pipeline of good investment opportunities in infrastructure in Sub-Saharan Africa.

-Evaluating, structuring, negotiating and closing new investment transactions.

-Developing innovative and appropriate financial structures for investment transactions.

-Coordinating closely with environmental and social colleagues to ensure the maintenance of high environmental and social standards in IFC’s investment.

-Developing and maintaining strong relationships with existing and prospective clients.

-Working closely with IFC’s external partners in infrastructure in the region.

-Collaborating efficiently with a range of industry and regional IFC colleagues.

Selection Criteria:
-MBA or equivalent graduate degree.

-At least 5 to 8 years of relevant finance experience, and a proven track record in originating, structuring and closing transactions.

-Knowledge of the infrastructure sector, and / or project finance is essential.

-Experience in emerging markets is an advantage.

-Strong financial and credit skills; demonstrated ability to structure a variety of financial instruments.

-Business development and client relationship skills, track record and ability to focus on client needs effectively.

-Strong interpersonal skills, ability to interact effectively with clients and colleagues from various cultural backgrounds.

-Commitment to the World Bank Group and IFC’s mission, strategy and values and motivation to support development in Sub-Saharan Africa.

-Results oriented and strong client focus.

-Oral and written communication skills in English; French language skills an advantage.
