Organisational Development Adviser

Working alongside the Somaliland Women’s Lawyers Association (SWLA)
Based in Hargeisa, Somaliland
Six-month placement

Please note that the selected applicant will be required to take up the placement by the end of March 2012, at the latest. Also, we are looking for a female candidate for this placement.

The Organisational Development Adviser will be placed with the Somaliland Women’s Lawyers Association (SWLA) and work alongside key staff on a daily basis building their knowledge and skills in organisational development and providing on-going mentoring and on-the-job coaching.

The successful candidate should have a degree level qualification or equivalent diploma in social/community development or a relevant discipline.

A minimum of three to five years’ work experience with NGOs in conducting organisational capacity assessment; building and strengthening the organisational development and/or capacity building needs of NGOs, and in mentoring and/ or coaching colleagues at work is essential. You should also have experience of developing, revising and monitoring organisational systems and procedures, and of working in a resource poor environment.

Demonstrable knowledge and skills in: organisational capacity assessments; resource mobilisation; project/ programme management; monitoring and evaluation; office and human resource management and administration, and mentoring and coaching are essential. You should also have an understanding of the issues facing a post-conflict society, and of the role which NGOs play in democratisation and poverty alleviation; skills in gender mainstreaming; excellent team building, interpersonal, communication and networking skills; initiative, proactivity, excellent time-management and organisational skills required to plan and implement own work, and to meet deadlines.

Flexibility and the ability to live and work effectively in a resource poor environment, with limited leisure facilities; willingness to undertake road travel in Somaliland; cultural sensitivity in an Islamic/ Somali environment, and the personal commitment to learning the basics of the Somali language are also essential.
