President & Executive Director Keep a Child Alive

Keep A Child Alive
President & Executive Director

The Organization
Keep A Child Alive (“KCA”) provides life-saving treatment, care, nutrition, and support services to children and families affected by HIV/AIDS in both Africa and India. With the tireless commitment of KCA Co-Founder and Grammy Award winning artist Alicia Keys, the organization supports clinics, orphanages, and care centers in Kenya, Rwanda, South Africa and India. Its support revitalizes families and communities, with simple things often taken for granted, such as beds, roofs, books, and smiles.
With an annual budget of over $5 million, KCA has been ahead of the curve since inception. It utilizes its extraordinary ability to leverage high visibility celebrity partnerships to raise both funds and awareness, capturing the public’s continued attention to the AIDS pandemic. In collaboration with a host of artists, from Usher to Norah Jones, and powerful entertainment executives, this nonprofit produces the annual Black Ball, a star-studded event that raises $2+ million through ticket sales, an auction and online fundraising. Other programs, events and merchandizing raise an additional $3 million per the year.
Keep A Child Alive is poised for significant growth and is seeking to hire a new President/Executive Director who can advocate successfully on behalf of the organization, while also leading it through a new phase of strategic planning to ensure sustainability of both international programs and funding.

The Position
KCA’s new President will collaborate closely with the organization’s staff to maximize the outcomes of its programs, build the organization’s international brand, and leverage fundraising opportunities. Reporting directly to the Board of Directors, the President must be a sophisticated and charismatic leader who feels passionately about KCA’s core mission and programs. The successful candidate will possess substantial experience in fundraising and in public/media relations. He or she must be an inclusive and creative hands-on manager of a 12 person staff committed to KCA’s mission. The President will drive the organization’s overall strategic direction while working with the Board of Directors, Ms. Keys and the staff to vigilantly maintain best practices in program delivery, fundraising, financial management, and messaging.

The ability to conceive and articulate a vision for KCA’s future growth will be essential for the new President. He or she must have experience in leading strategic planning and be able to tactically engage the Board of Directors, volunteers and celebrities that dedicate their time and support to the organization. The President must be a confident fundraiser who can secure and steward major gifts as well as supervise fundraising activities. The ability to travel internationally and domestically is required. Excellent communication skills are critically important.

Specific Responsibilities:
• Strategic Planning: Initiate, with the support of the Board of Directors, a strategic plan that will ensure the organization’s successful trajectory for the next five years.
• Fundraising: Working with the Board of Directors and staff, the President is ultimately responsible for raising $5 - $6 million annually from corporations, foundations, and individuals. The President must also serve as the director of production for KCA’s signature fundraising event, the Black Ball.
• Finances and Investments: Working with the senior staff, the President creates an annual budget and ensures that the organization meets fiscal goals throughout the year. He or she will access, audit and evaluate the financial commitments KCA makes with the organizations it sponsors overseas.
• Marketing & Communications: The President will collaborate with the marketing/communications team to maintain the organization’s brand on its website and in films and events.
• Board of Directors: The President will have the opportunity to grow the powerful but limited Board, expanding its reach in strategic growth areas and further diversifying its professional composition. Further, the President will work to enrich Board giving, and maintain the positive interaction of the Board through its committees and events.
• Program Development: The President will supervise all program delivery through periodic visits to both India and Africa. He or she will be capable of assessing, audit, and evaluate all of KCA’s relationships with program delivery partners.

Qualifications:
• Bachelor’s degree in a related field; advanced degree preferred.
• Ten years + experience managing non-profit organizations, or equivalent senior management experience, preferably for an organization with multiple sites or with domestic and international partners.
• Solid track record of fundraising among major donors, foundations, corporations, and sponsors.
• Considerable events experience required.
• Superior verbal and written communication skills.
• Ability to work with a wide range of constituencies, from program delivery agencies in Africa and India to entertainment executives around the world.
