The Department of Industrial Engineering focuses on five areas of research for improving global competitiveness, viz. Strategic Industrial Engineering, Operational Industrial Engineering, Systems Engineering, Applied Industrial Engineering and Engineering Management.

With the aim of ensuring sustainability and renewal, the successful candidate will be expected to keep abreast of the latest academic content and practical applications in the area he/she will be deployed.

Duties:
• Providing academic guidance to and managing a specific research group
• Undergraduate and postgraduate teaching
• Conducting research and technology transfer to indus¬try

(The above will depend on the level of appointment).

Requirements:
• Doctorate in Engineering or a Masters degree in Engineering with relevant experience
• Academic and/or industry-related leadership skills in Engineering Management
• A sound research record
• Proven management experience at senior level
• Compliance with criteria for registration as Professional Engineer or Engineer-in-Training
• Substantial academic or industrial experience in one or more of the five activity areas of the Department of Industrial Engineering as mentioned above.

Recommendations:
• Ability to teach the full spectrum of Industrial Engineering subjects at undergraduate level in own personal field of specialisation
• Ability to facilitate postgraduate modules in own personal field of specialisation;
• Ability to render support through teaching other modules at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels
• Experience in postgraduate supervision
• Publications in journals
• A proven research record, including publications and possible NRF grading (depending on the level at which candidates apply)
• proven ability to make professional lecturing presentations in Afrikaans as well as in English (or being prepared to acquire complete receptive skills in Afrikaans within a reasonable period)

Commencement of duties: 1 June 2012 or as per agreement
