RESEARCH FELLOW IN EXPERIMENTAL AERODYNAMICS
Department of Mechanical Engineering
Melbourne School of Engineering
Salary: $57,351 - $77,825 p.a. plus 9% superannuation
The Melbourne School of Engineering teaches into engineering pathways and breadth studies in non-engineering undergraduate degrees of the University and offers the engineering professional accreditation qualification at the Masters level. The School delivers quality teaching and learning with industry linkage and research programs under the Melbourne Engineering Research Institute (MERIT), and aspires to be one of the great Schools of Engineering in the world.
The Department of Mechanical Engineering is seeking a postdoctoral Research Fellow in experimental aerodynamics, to carry out research on passive flow control of turbulent boundary layers. This is an ARC funded project to study the effect of highly ordered surface topologies on the turbulent boundary layer structure. You will join the well-established Walter Bassett Aerodynamics Laboratory (which has available three state-of-the-art PIV systems with a total of 15 cameras, 40 channels of hot-wire anemometry and automated instrumentation traversing systems). You will be expected to develop and use advanced experimental techniques including, particle image velocimetry and hot-wire anemometry, and perform advanced analysis of the data generated.
You will also be expected to carry out other duties commensurate with a postdoctoral position in the Department of Mechanical Engineering, including writing high quality journal publications, writing grant applications to external funding agencies, submitting abstracts and full-length papers to national and international conferences.
