TB/HIV & Operational Research Specialist , ICAP

ICAP South Africa is seeking a TB/HIV and Operations Research Specialist to support the management of an Accredited TB/HIV Regional Training and Operations Research Centre and to support the design and implementation of the Centre's activities. The incumbent will be a TB specialist physician possessing relevant operational research experience. Reporting to the Senior Program Manager-ICAP South Africa, the incumbent will be responsible for providing clinical training and mentorship to healthcare workers. The incumbent will also participate in curricula development for the international accredited TB/HIV Training Centre's portfolio of clinical training offerings. He/she will assist in providing direction in the planning, implementation, monitoring and evaluation of the TB/HIV Regional Training and Operations Research Centre's activities, and will assess and prioritize the clinical training needs of Centre participant trainees as indicated in situational analyses. In collaboration with the ICAP Training Coordinator, the successful candidate will develop an overall strategic plan for training programs in TB/HIV work, provide TB/HIV expertise in the development of curricula for training purposes and support the development and implementation of accredited training and assessment activities. He/she will be expected to take an active role in operational research and/or targeted evaluations of TB/HIV-related activities, and to build capacity by providing technical support to the National Department of Health, Provincial Department of Health and ICAP partners to implement technical planning, management and evaluation of training activities related to TB/HIV. Other relevant duties will be assigned by the immediate supervisor or Country Director as necessary.

Requirements:

• MD, MB/CHB or equivalent degree

• At least 3-5 years' TB and HIV clinical experience

• At least 3 years' experience in health programme management in resource-constrained settings

• Experience in conducting operational research for at least 2 years

• Excellent grasp of clinical issues and current literature in TB, HIV/AIDS and OI management and treatment

• Experience conducting operational research (programme evaluation, outcomes research, cost-effectiveness research)

Preferred Qualifications:

• Ability to manage projects/activities, set realistic priorities and timelines and follow through appropriately

• Experience in developing programme activities, work plans and budgets

• Experience in clinical training

• Knowledge of curricula development for training purposes will be extremely beneficial

• Excellent interpersonal and team-building skills

• Experience in collaborating with Local Government partners, the US Government or bilateral donors

• Exceptional writing and verbal communication skills

• Fluency in spoken and written English
