The British Council creates international opportunities for the people of the UK and other countries and builds trust between them worldwide. Our work on behalf of the arts and creative industries in the UK encourages audiences and participants worldwide to reflect, enjoy, learn and improve their understanding of the UK.

The British Council Collection, designated a ‘national collection’ under the National Heritage Act (1982), is one of the UK’s outstanding public collections of modern and contemporary British art. Our collection comprises approximately 8,500 items, of which 2,500 are ‘unique works’. All artworks are available for international touring in support of the British Council’s commitment to offer worldwide access to original works of art.

We are looking for a workshop registrar to co-ordinate, monitor and regulate the safe storage, receipt and despatch of the British Council’s art collection and to facilitate the preparation and delivery of collection loans and British Council exhibitions, both nationally and internationally.

The ideal candidate will have significant practical experience working in a similar role within a museum or gallery environment. Candidates must demonstrate an awareness of international museum standards for storing and movement of artwork and a professional knowledge of the science and technology of fine art handling. You are required occasionally to courier works of art internationally, so some unsociable hours are expected.
