Educational Adviser/Outreach Specialist , American Embassy

The U.S. Consulate General, Cape Town is seeking an individual for the position of Educational Adviser/Outreach Specialist in Public Affairs Section (PAS).

Qualifications Required:

Items 1- 7 are ALL REQUIRED

1. Completion of secondary school and bachelor’s degree in education, humanities, social or related sciences is required.
2. Five years of professional experience in academic advising or program planning, budgeting and implementation of youth program is required.
3. English level IV (Fluent) reading/writing/speaking is required.
4. Level 1 (Rudimentary knowledge) of any African language is required.
5. Comprehensive knowledge of both the U.S. and South African secondary and tertiary education systems is required.
6. Ability in program planning, budgeting and implementation, particularly for youth audiences, is required.
7. Proficiency in use of social media platforms such as Facebook, Twitter, MixIt, etc. Proficiency in the use of Microsoft Office Suite 2007.

Job Specification

The incumbent is responsible for providing education advising services and other public affairs outreach to target audiences and the general public in the Western, Northern, and Eastern Cape Provinces. The Educational Adviser and Outreach Specialist delivers comprehensive, accurate, and unbiased information to South Africans interested in undergraduate, graduate or post-graduate study at U.S. accredited higher education institutions through the regular group and individual advising sessions, workshops, and an array of other education and information outreach programs. The incumbent develops, plans, and implements Public Affairs programming at various locations, including the American Corner at Cape Town’s Central Library.

Basic Salary: R237,113 – R331,955 per annum
Cash Benefits: R59,819 – R67,723 per annum
Non-cash benefits include medical, pension and others where applicable

Salary level will be based on prior job-related experience and salary history.
