Deputy Head of Humanitarian Technical Unit Save the Children UK

The Humanitarian Technical Unit (HTU) sits within Save the Children UK’s Humanitarian Department. The HTU comprises of technical specialists (Technical Advisors and Emergency Response Personnel) from the fields of Education, Child Protection, Nutrition, Food Security & Livelihoods, Health, WASH, Shelter, M & E, Accountability & Learning. The primary purpose of the Humanitarian Technical Unit (HTU) is to ensure a high level of quality in SC humanitarian programmes. This is achieved through technical support to country programmes, supporting technical capacity building, developing effective programme policy and tools, and through interface with the wider humanitarian community.
The post holder’s main responsibility will be to work with the Head of the HTU to lead and develop the HTU to deliver on SCUK’s ambitious new 2011–15 Humanitarian Strategy. The post holder will achieve this by providing high quality team management and by being a respected humanitarian technical authority within Save the Children. They will support the setup and delivery of high quality multisectoral, integrated emergency response programmes, connecting field practice to capacity building, programme policy development, innovation and advocacy at the global level. Whilst the Head of the HTU has overall responsibility for the team, the Deputy Head of the HTU will take a specific lead on support to country programmes.
