Instructional Designer Air Traffic and Navigation Services Company

The Air Traffic and Navigation Services Company Limited of South Africa (ATNS) provides air traffic services throughout the country and is responsible for the provision of the air traffic control and navigation systems infrastructure necessary to ensure a safe and effective service.

Instructional Designer

Applications are invited for the position of Instructional Designer based at our Aviation Training Academy. The successful applicant will be reporting to the Senior Manager: Instructional Design & Training Integrity and will adhere to the ATNS QMS with assistance from SME’s in the performance of their duties.

Major Activities: • Upgrading conventional course material to Standardised Training Packages to TRAINAIR and ATNS standards • Developing new courses as TRAINAIR Standardised Training Packages to TRAINAIR standards • Undertaking preliminary instructional design studies in accordance with TRAINAIR or educational technology processes • Drafting training feasibility reports in accordance with TRAINAIR or educational technology processes • Conducting detailed task analyses in accordance with TRAINAIR or educational technology processes • Consulting with internal and external clients (including SME’s) in order to investigate and propose instructional design or organisational development solutions • Analysing the target population in accordance with TRAINAIR or educational technology processes • Drafting training design reports in accordance with TRAINAIR or educational technology processes • Designing curricula and/or syllabi, including definition of training objectives and mastery tests/assessments in accordance with TRAINAIR or educational technology processes • Designing modules, including justification of training strategy and selection of media in accordance with TRAINAIR or educational technology processes • Producing material and complete development testing in accordance with TRAINAIR or educational technology processes • Obtaining, presenting and recording human resource development information that can be used for comparison, best practice and benchmarking exercises • Ensuring the research activities are continuous and ensuring that world class programmes can be produced • Designing, developing and implementing an instructional evaluation system • Assisting the CRM with return on investment calculations • Attending human resource development meetings and ensuring follow-up with reference to continuous improvement.

Minimum Qualifications: • Bachelor’s Degree in Human Resource Development or Adult Education • Instructional Design certificate.

Minimum Experience: • 2 years’ experience in educational technology instructional design methodology • 2 years’ experience in TRAINAIR instructional design methodology • Experience in training system evaluation.

Skills and Competencies: • Understanding of business processes • Strong problem solving ability • Strong understanding of key technology concepts and the requisite application for business • Strong communication skills (verbal and written) • Ability to negotiate with business and vendors • Analytical and structured approach to work • Ability to perform under pressure • Innovative and creative • Ability to manage conflict.
