Background / General description:
The International Finance Corporation’s Europe and Central Asia (ECA) department is seeking to recruit an Investment Analyst. The position will assist the department in carrying out a wide variety of fee-based advisory mandates for governments which are IFC’s member countries. These will be primarily focused in the infrastructure and utilities sectors. The position will be based in Almaty, Kazakhstan, and will report to the Regional Business Line Leader for Infrastructure advisory in ECA. The job will entail significant travel within the region.

The candidate should have an understanding of the ECA region, and will work closely with governments in the region, as well as the ECA business development team, Industry departments in IFC and related departments in the World Bank Group.

The work will involve the implementation of transactions from an advisory role. As such the day-to-day tasks will be varied, covering the preparation of reports, structuring transactions, interacting with clients, financial modeling, drafting bid documents, and supervising consultants. The job holder will work primarily with team leaders.

Duties and Accountabilities:
• Assist the infrastructure advisory team with active infrastructure advisory mandates;

• Assist the infrastructure advisory team with its marketing activities, taking a proactive approach to developing new client contacts and project leads;

• Develop financial models;

• Assist team leaders or take the lead in the preparation of proposals for new mandates;

• Draft consultant terms of reference and requests for proposals, correspondence with clients and management.

• Provide support to Team Leaders in selection of consultants, including drafting applications for funding of consultant costs;

• Assist Team Leaders in the management of hired consultants and their supervision;

• Assist or take the lead in drafting key project deliverables;

• Develop a thorough understanding of the region, particularly the infrastructure sectors, provide market intelligence and knowledge of developments in the general business environment;

• Participate in project teams to accomplish work as required on several projects simultaneously.

Selection Criteria:
• Bachelor’s degree in finance, business administration or economics.

• At least 2-4 years experience in investment banking, advisory services or business consulting, project finance and/or infrastructure economics, with good knowledge of the sector, networks and credibility within the business and governmental communities.

• Strong quantitative, financial analysis and modeling skills.

• Knowledge of and experience in the IFI’s activities and governmental environments is an advantage.

• Language Preferences: English – Excellent. Russian is an advantage.

• Proficiency in MS Office applications (MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint).

• Excellent communication skills both written and oral, including the ability to convey ideas clearly and to draft clear and concise reports.

• Demonstrated ability to conceptualize, design and implement projects and to close transactions.

• Excellent interpersonal skills, with the ability to establish and develop relationships.

• Strong sense of service to clients, openness to feedback and to new ideas.

• Ability to work in teams, deliver high quality work within deadlines, and to meet team objectives.

• Sense of responsibility, organisation and initiative.

• Motivated and enthusiastic about the opportunities and challenges of working in the ECA region to achieve sustainable development.
