Position Overview
We seek to appoint an enthusiastic Lecturer in Genetics. You will have a PhD; experience in undergraduate teaching and postgraduate supervision; together with a demonstrable quality research track record in Drosophila Genetics. You will enhance the learning and qualification outcomes of Massey's students and the scholarly outputs of the University by undertaking an effective programme of teaching; undertaking research including research supervision of students; engaging in the pursuit of external funding; providing administrative and professional service to the University and broader academic or professional communities.

Job description
Purpose statement
We seek appicants who will establish an active research program in Genetics and contribute to undergraduate teaching and postgraduate supervision of students.
Responsible to
Head of Molecular BioSciences
Key accountabilities
Research
1. Undertake an active, appropriate and viable personal research programme in memory using a model organism such as Drosophila to investigate the biological questions.
2. Publish papers and other scholarly works in academic journals, books and other appropriate media.
3. Present research and participate at national and international academic conferences.
4. Generate research funding from both internal and external sources.
Teaching/Supervision
1. Undertake undergraduate and postgraduate teaching.
2. Develop and teach major curriculum components of both undergraduate and postgraduate courses.
3. Supervise the research activities of postgraduate students and postdoctoral fellows, and assist in the supervision of students at a postgraduate level.
4. Undertake continuing personal professional development
Service to the Community
1. Participate in community activities that further advance the profession or field and which are consistent with the University Charter and Strategic Plan.
University Responsibilities
1. Serve on University and/or Institute committees as requested.
2. Ensure the observance of University policy and codes of practice in all teaching, research, community service, and administrative practices.
3. Contribute to the development of the Institute working environment of teamwork and cooperation.

Person specification
Qualifications
A PhD in Genetics or related discipline
Experience
A post doc track record in Genetics research including the ability to produce refereed journal articles, along with a willingness to pursue external research funding. Experience in teaching at tertiary level or equivalent professional experience. Experience in memory research using a model organism such as Drosophila is desired.
