Mechanical Foreman -Buzwagi Gold Mine

African Barrick Gold’s (ABG) Buzwagi Mine in Tanzania requires a suitably qualified and experience Mechanical Foreman within the Process Plant. This position will report to the Process Maintenance Superintendent and is worked on a FIFO 6/3 week roster.
KEY RESULT AREAS/ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
The Mechanical General Foreman is responsible for:
  • Leading, organizing and monitoring activities of maintenance personnel
  • Ensuring the safe and efficient maintenance of the Process Plant to achieve Key Performance Indicators
  • Ensuring compliance with safety, environment and security standards
  • This position is essential for the development of Mechanical Supervisors and Technicians into positions of increasing accountability as per the Barrick Buzwagi Succession Plan.
The specific duties of the Mechanical Foreman include but are not limited to the following:
  • Provide leadership to ensure that employees and contractors adhere to safety and environmental standards that exceed worldwide industry practice and any applicable legislative requirements.
  • Lead the Buzwagi Mechanical Maintenance Team Development & Operation to ensure agreed targets are achieved, within corporate safety and environmental guidelines in the areas of:
    • Mill Availability
    • Throughput and Recovery
    • Process Operating & Maintenance Costs
    • Capital Expenditure
  • Manage activities of the Mechanical Maintenance Team to assure safe, cost effective and high quality maintenance activities and to optimize Company’s financial status.
  • Ensure that maintenance practices result in maximum mill availability. Meeting or exceeding planned mill availability is a Key Performance Indicator.
  • Lead Mechanical Maintenance personnel to work safety at all times, and develop and promote a safe and healthy work environment.
  • Lead and supervise Mechanical Maintenance personnel to optimise Process Plant maintenance KPI’s, including mill availability, planned maintenance, minimise costs and improve housekeeping.
  • Ensure achievement of optimum and cost effective plant performance and equipment service though active collaboration and planning between Operations, Metallurgy and Maintenance teams.
  • Ensure procedures for identification, approval, planning, scheduling, execution and recording of work are developed, implemented and trained in alignment with Barrick guidelines and best practice.
  • Develop and maintain reporting procedures for maintenance, planning and cost reporting.
  • Manage workshop facilities, ensuring excellent house keeping and that tooling is secured, maintained and replaced as required.
  • Support the Process Maintenance Superintendent in budgeting and control of Process Plant maintenance costs. Implement and monitor systems and take corrective action where necessary to ensure that consumable usage and costs remain favorable to budget.
  • Support the Process Maintenance Superintendent in development of a long-term maintenance plan, which includes all identified routine, non-routine and probable maintenance work, and capital required to ensure safe and effective performance of the Process Plant on a yearly basis and for Life of Mine.
  • Manage Succession Planning within the Mechanical Maintenance Team to ensure that PML achieves development of Tanzanian employees to assume positions of increasing accountability. Development of Mechanics/Boilermakers and Supervisors to positions of increasing accountability is a Key Performance Indicator.
  • Provide input into development of maintenance training packages.
  • Provide ongoing training, mentoring and employee performance management, to develop and maintain a safe, competent and results orientated Process Maintenance team, and to ensure that employees gain new skills and achieve their full potential.
  • Develop and implement Safe Work Procedures and other maintenance procedures. Assist in training of these procedures and ensure they are adhered to.
  • Take appropriate action when substandard performance or behavior of employees is observed.
  • Be proactive in all aspects of Process Plant security to prevent and eliminate theft and fraud.
  • Continually review every aspect of the Process Plant to ensure that opportunities to add value and enhance shareholder wealth are identified and implemented. Initiate and lead continuous improvement projects.
  • Facilitate creation of a workplace climate that ensures minimum disruption to work due to labour turnover or industrial relations issues.
PROFESSIONAL AND INTERPERSONAL DETAILS
Education Requirements:
  • Trade qualified - mechanical discipline; or B. Mechanical Engineering / Associate Diploma or similar.
Experience Requirements:
  • Minimum of 7 years experience of Process Plant Mechanical maintenance including experience in gold plants, with at least 3 years in a leadership role.
  • Experience in systematic coaching and training of employees is essential.
  • Experience with computerised maintenance systems, eg Pronto, is essential
