"Project Pinotage" is a newly created, one year vocational programme aimed at 18-25 year olds in the Boland region. Delivering a blend of technical wine skills supported by practical experience and a broad range of life skills, it will build personal capacity to ready students for employment in the wine industry and related sectors, or for further education.

Project Pinotage (our working title, referred to as PP) is the inspiration of the Dame Hilary Cropper Foundation, a UK based organisation, and it will be administered by a locally established South African NPO. We are seeking to recruit a Programme Director to translate the recently completed detailed curriculum and comprehensive student support framework into a working programme.

Salary: 4110 USD per month [conversion rate = 0.1173] | 35000 ZAR per month
Job Description
Responsibilities and requirements will be as follows:


Responsibilities:

• Providing leadership and oversight to the entire Project Pinotage programme
• Liaising and managing the relationships with the PP Board and the DHCF Board
• Recruiting, managing and mentoring the PP staff
• Managing and implementing the approved project’s vision, mission and strategy
• Managing the PP brand and its PR and communications, especially with service industry bodies and other stakeholders
• Managing and developing all funding and fundraising for the programme, including proposal writing and donor-relations activities
• Overseeing the implementation of the PP curriculum and negotiation and managing all contracts with training service providers
• Management of properties and all other legal aspects of the programme
• Liaising with farms to arrange work placements (including contracts, worksheets, feedback etc)
• Engaging directly with students in teaching, mentoring, conflict resolution and in disciplinary matters
• Establishing and managing relationships with potential employers/recruitment organisations for students successfully completing the programme
• Sourcing potential internship partners
• Monitoring and evaluation and regular reporting


Requirements:


• South African citizenship and resident in the Boland region non-negotiable
• Tertiary education in a relevant field such as education, social sciences or business management
• Minimum of six years experience in management positions, preferably in the education or social services sector or in business management
• Experience of a start up organisation a significant advantage
• Experience of working with young people, youth projects and programmes an advantage
• Knowledge of fundraising and the donor world essential
• Knowledge of the wine sector an important advantage
• High level people management skills, with knowledge of conflict resolution skills a requirement
• Willingness to work in programme activities after hours and over weekends
• Business writing and records management skills
• Knowledge of programme implementation methodology
• Proven financial management skills
• Problem solving and analytical skills
• People management, teamwork and interpersonal skills
• Valid driver’s license and access to own transport. Must qualify for a Public Driver’s Permit (PDP)
• Ability to speak English and Afrikaans and deliver reports in English. Fluency in Xhosa would be a distinct advantage
