The role
The Finance & Grants Manager leads the finance team under the supervision of the Support Services Director. The Finance/Grants Manager will be responsible for finance planning, budgeting, management of the FMS, grants and contracts management, ensuring financial and grants compliance and supervision and mentoring of the finance team. The position ensures quality services to clients in line with SCI Policies and Procedures in both a development and humanitarian response context.
Qualifications and experience
  • At least six years experience, of which three at a management level, within the finance / grants / contracts department of an international organization including experience with finance/grants/contract management in emergencies.
  • Masters in Finance, Business or relevant field
  • CPA or equivalent degree (CA, ACMA, ACCA) is preferable
  • Excellent analytical skills – the ability to analyse complex financial data and design and produce effective management information.
  • Previous experience with various donors USAID, Europe Aid, CIDA , World Bank, UNICEF
  • Experience of managing USAID contracts is a definite advantage
  • Experience of budgeting and budget management.
  • Understanding of financial systems and procedures.
  • Experience of computerised accounts packages, Excel, PowerPoint and Word.
  • Experience of general administration work
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to manage a complex and diverse workload and to work to tight deadlines.
  • Ability to contribute to a small, proactive team, motivating staff and working collaboratively with colleagues and providing support and advice as necessary.
  • Ability to make reasonable judgments and assume responsibility.
  • Willingness and ability to dramatically change work practices and hours, and work with incoming surge teams, in the event of emergencies
  • A full appreciation of the value of co-operation, both internationally and within a team environment.
  • Understanding of Save the Children’s vision and mission and a commitment to its objectives.
  • Written and verbal fluency in English; fluency in Arabic and/or Kurdish would be an advantage
  • Ability to work in a challenging environment, to adapt to rapidly changing conditions and to work effectively under pressure
