Position Overview

Massey University College of Education is seeking to recruit a suitably experienced and qualified academic staff member to teach inclusive education in its undergraduate and post graduate programmes. This is a fixed term (30 months) full time position which can be based either in Palmerston North or Auckland.

Suitable applicants will have:
A relevant postgraduate qualification
Successful teaching experience, preferrably at tertiary level
Strong pedagogical knowledge
A demonstrable record of innovative teaching

Applications appointed at the Lecturer or Senior Lecturer scale will also need a proven research publication record, or evidence of potential to develop such a record.

Job description

Purpose statement

To enhance the learning and qualification outcomes of Massey University students and the scholarly ouputs of the University by undertaking an effective programme of teaching; research including research supervision of students; and by providing administrative and professional service to the University and broader academic or professional communities

Responsible to

The Head of the School of Curriculum and Pedagogy

Key accountabilities

Teaching
1. Undertake undergraduate and postgraduate teaching.
2. Develop and teach major curriculum components of courses.
3. Coordinate and administer the teaching of subjects.
4. Supervise the research activities of graduate and undergraduate students and assist in the supervision of students/ research projects at a postgraduate level.
5. Supervise students on teaching practicum


Research (at Lecturer or above position)
1. Undertake an active, appropriate and viable personal research programme or participate in team-based research.
2. Publish papers or other scholarly works in academic journals and review papers.

Service to the Community
1. Participate in community service activities that further advance the profession or field and which are consistent with the University’s Charter and Strategic Plan.
2. Assist the School to develop an environment which gives effect to the obligations of the Treaty of Waitangi.

University Responsibilities
1. Serve on University and/or School committees.
2. Ensure the observance of University policy and codes of practice in all teaching, research, community service and administrative practices.
3. Contribute to the development of a School working environment of teamwork and cooperation.

A relevant postgraduate qualification

Experience

Experience:
The successful applicant should have:
A research publication record in reputable peer reviewed academic and/or professional journals (for appointment at lecturer or above)
A demonstrable record of innovative teaching
A proven track record in or evidence of potential to engage in research supervision
