HEAL TB project is a new project which has the objectives of providing quality Directly Observed Treatment Short course (DOTS), strengthening referral linkages to the community and assist the Federal Republic of Ethiopia and targeted regions to improve, expand and sustain TB Control services. The major focus areas of the support will be in the areas of leadership and management, lab and diagnostic capacity, develop health workers skills, drug supply management, recording and reporting, referral linkages, community awareness on TB and infection control.

We are seeking a Community TB Officer who will support TB focal persons at zonal health departments, Woreda health offices and health centers to ensure completed referrals to/from health posts. This role is essential to improve detection of TB and MDR-TB and support patient adherence to TB treatment, conduct advocacy, communication, and social mobilization activities in support of increased TB case detection and increased treatment success rates. The Community TB Officer will work closely with stake holders to build capacity of Health Extension Workers and TB focal persons for community TB care focusing on case referrals, and treatment adherence support. Specific responsibilities include:

  • Implement and monitor the project’s community TB strategy according to work plans and budgets.
  • Provide technical assistance for Primary Health Care Unit for the implementation of community-based TB care in the identification, tracking of suspects and referral.
  • Build the capacity of national and local partner’s staff and government TB focal persons on community TB care.
  • Train Health Extension Workers (HEW) supervisors, woreda TB focal persons and other designated health workers on TB Control.
  • Coordinate with government, private and project partners at the different levels.
  • Assist Woreda health offices and PHCU to develop and implement infection control plans.
  • Assist in adaptation of IEC/BCC materials, Standard Operating Plans (SOPs) and training materials.
  • Work at Primary Health Care Unit (PHCU) and the community level on several key components of HEAL TB: implementation of community-based TB care, scaling up MDR-TB diagnosis and treatment.
  • Work from a HEAL TB project office at regional or sub-regional level and be responsible for implementing and monitoring the project’s community TB strategy in Oromiya.

Required Skills
  • Ability and willingness to travel frequently outside of her/his duty station
  • Proficiency in MS Office applications
  • Demonstrated excellent organizational and interpersonal skills
  • Demonstrated ability to work in a team environment
Required Experience

Health Officer or Nurse professional (B.Sc. in Public Health or Nursing, with MPH preferred) and a minimum of 5 years of experience in community TB, TB-DOTS or HIV/TB. Experience in community TB care in Oromiya is preferred, NGO experience will be an added advantage.
