Head of Mission People in Need Kuito, Angola
People in Need (PIN) has been active in Angola since 2006. The operation in Angola is currently PIN’s second largest international development cooperation mission. The education and agriculture sectors are the focus of PIN’s activities. Activities include: construction of schools, teacher training, skills training for farmers including a poultry breeding demonstration site, and support towards development of small farming businesses. Location: Angola, Cuemba, Kuito
Starting date: October / November 2012
Duration: preferably 24 months
Head of Mission´s role is mostly managerial and coordination. He/she is responsible for the mission´s management and representation in country, management and support of project and operational teams, following the standards and procedures set up both internally and by the donors; programme implementation and further development economical and strategic planning of the mission.
Main responsibilities:
• management and support of both expatriate and national staff
• supervision of currently implemented projects incl. problems resolution
• strategic planning of all the programmes in accordance with needs of the country and PINs´ priorities; designing of new projects and ensuring their funding
• supervision on internal procedures and missions economy
• mission´s representation towards other stakeholders (local and governmental authorities, donors, partners and public)
• Required competencies of suitable candidate:
• proven managerial experience – team and project management; preferably in field of development or relief aid
• fluent in English and Portuguese (alternatively Spanish)
• strong motivation for work in NGO and developing countries
• mature, well balanced personality able to work independently in challenging environment
• ability to make decisions after careful considerations even ii stressful situations and under time pressure
• is opened to the intercultural differences and can easily manage multicultural teams
PIN as employer offers:
• responsible position in one of PIN´s largest mission
• participation in meaningful, sustainable development projects
• background of established NGO and well established mission
• Reimbursement of travel expenses with travel to the country of residence once per every 6 months of work, extra flight ticket for Head of Mission to visit HQ in Prague;
• Reimbursement of costs of visas and vaccinations; assistance with visa application procedure;
• Medical helpdesk and psychological consultation available on line;
• Travel insurance covering war zones;
• Accommodation is in PIN guesthouse on PIN expenses ;
• 25 days of paid leave annually (compensational leave: if it occurs absolutely necessary work over weekend or on holidays is compensated proportionally 1:1);
• R&R: Employee can use 3 additional days off (plus weekend) for this purpose and PIN will cover cost of one regional ticket up to 500 USD per year. Other expenses are to be covered by the employee. R&R may be combined with up to 5 days from annual leave or compensational leave.
