Tanzania Red Cross Society Regional Blood Safety Coordinator

The incumbent provide oversight, management and for coordination of regional TRCS blood safety activities. Through assessing all blood donation activities, transfusion facilities within the region, and focal person for setting voluntary blood donation plans in collaboration with the regional team. Leads and coordinate blood collection activities in the region which includes blood donor mobilization, blood donor recruitment, collection, transportation, storage, distribution to transfusing facilities and ensuring quality and adherence to guidelines on cold chain at all levels. Responsible for ensuring samples and extra blood are transported to the relevant zone, work closely with lab attaché at the relevant zone to ensure efficient courier system for transportation of samples, blood and ensure timely availability of test results and timely notification to relevant donors

Ensures well documentation and timely compilation of relevant regional reports to be forwarded to Headquarters. Lead and motivate the regional team to ensure the set blood collection targets are met. Liaison with relevant stakeholders to enhance good relationship towards building a sustainable/acceptable blood safety program in the region
The positions are based in the following regions - Rukwa, Singida, Coast, Shinyanga, Kagera and Manyara with extensive traveling within the region
Reports to: Program Manager
Main Duties and Responsibilities:
In charge of the regional team.
Facilitate preparation of plan of action and blood donation weekly, monthly and annual blood donation calendar with targets.
Supervises and ensure quality of the planned activities on daily basis to meet targets.
Ensure establishment of reliable courier system.
Responsible for overall performance of blood donation activities in the region- number of clubs formed and units of blood donated, public/ private partnership and contribution, proportion of blood donation out of schools.
Supervises trainings conducted within the region as regard to blood donation
Liaises with relevant stakeholders in the zones/ region/ districts on issues related to blood safety program (storage, transportation, distribution and support for blood safety program at regional level)
Ensure proper storage of blood/samples and timely transportation to zonal centers
Establish/revive and maintain donor clubs
Hold meetings with hospital administration to encourage referral of family replacement donors to TRCS offices walk in donor site
Conduct weekly/monthly progress review and submit reports to HQ
Conduct monthly meetings with lab attaché at zonal center
Compile monthly/quarterly report for submission to HQ
Review reports on correction measures taken at regional level submitted to HQ
Any other functions assigned by the supervisor

Knowledge
Degree/ Advanced Diploma in health related fields (Doctor, Assistant Medical Officer), Community Development, Education, Marketing and Public relations.
Experience, skills,
A minimum of 3 years of working experience in related field
Fluent in Kiswahili both written and spoken
Good computer skills
Working with blood donation program will be of added advantage
