Climate Consultant

£21,250 - £24,250 per annum + benefits
Based in Exeter

The only way to predict the day-to-day weather and changes to the climate over longer timescales is to use computer models. This is an incredible opportunity to work with a world leader in climate research, using the most sophisticated technology (our latest model is at the forefront of state-of-the-art Earth system models) and see research applied and put into action.
The role
The Met Office Hadley Centre is one of the world's leading centres for climate research. Our Climate Consultancy team has grown rapidly in the last few years in response to the increase in demand for research and consultancy on climate risk. And joining them, you’ll work alongside world leading scientists with the most up to date science - building on your experience and actively contributing to this exciting, high profile area of work.
In this varied role, you’ll draw on your scientific know-how to help develop suitable techniques to analyse and quantify the impact and risk of climate change and climate variability. That means undertaking research in a range of areas and working with the wider Hadley Centre to develop solutions to address customer issues. Representing the Met Office at customer meetings, scientific conferences and seminars, you’ll enjoy plenty of exposure and the opportunity to apply science in a very real and rewarding way.
The person
You’ll need a 2:1 degree or above in mathematics, the physical sciences or a related subject. Alongside real enthusiasm for a career in consultancy, you have the ability to pick up new scientific and technical skills in order to meet the customer's needs. Intelligent and methodical you have the drive to deliver high quality results through effective planning and the creation of appropriate solutions. And with clear, confident communication skills, you'll have no problem translating and presenting complex technical information into concise, digestible facts which everyone can understand.
