Director of Policy, Advocacy & Campaigns

SALARY: £68,000 p.a
CONTRACT: Permanent
LOCATION: Central London
CLOSING DATE: November 16th
INTERVIEWS: Friday 30th November 2012
At ActionAid we've undergone significant planned change to ensure we are better positioned to deliver lasting solutions to the problems of global poverty. A new structure and fresh thinking has re-energised the organisation.
This role is a superb opportunity for someone who wants to be part of the future success of the organisation and help deliver a bold strategy to provide sustained improvements to the poorest and most excluded people in the world. Join our action to end poverty now and be part of something truly amazing.
Our 2012-17 strategy sets ambitious objectives. We will pursue a portfolio of different campaigns and policy advocacy work that aims to inspire and engage our supporters, bring new people on board and achieve tangible and transformative changes to the lives of people living with poverty and injustice.
ActionAid is renowned for its cutting edge policy, advocacy and campaigning work and this is an opportunity for an experienced leader to take it forward at an exciting time, building on a rich foundation and taking it to the next level.
As a key member of our UK Senior Leadership Team, you’ll be the chief professional advisor to our Executive Director and Board of Trustees on policy, advocacy and campaigns, and the person ultimately accountable for this part of our operation.
Your success in developing and implementing effective strategies will be measured against the goals you set, as well as how well they align with our international strategy, approach, brand and campaigning ‘signature’ – and make the best use of resources.
We’ll expect you to provide creative leadership and ensure evidence, impact assessment, innovation and learning are embedded in your part of our work. You’ll also need to be a champion of our values and ways of working: someone who raises our public profile and provides inspiration internally.
Your impressive record in a senior role shows you have a strong understanding of, and interest in, international development issues, human rights, the UK political system and campaigning environment.
It proves you can do all the things asked of you in this role: that you know how to create, implement and control strategic direction, are skilled at getting the best from a large team and budget and have an extraordinary ability to win support from the widest range of people. You are ready to have a major influence on our work and help make a better world.
