Your tasks
The Competence Center Financial Systems Development in the Department for Economic Development and Employment is seeking a Senior Advisor and Manager for the Risk Insurance Unit. The successful applicant will lead the the Competence Center's work on developing insurance systems. This includes market development as well as supervision/regulation in emerging market economies and development countries. This task encompasses research, consultancy services for GIZ's global project portfolio in the field of insurance, project management of the cooperation with the private sector (Munich RE, Allianz SE) and relationship management with international partner institutions active in the area of insurance. The Senior Manager will lead a team within the KC responsible for knowledge management and will also be in charge of representing GIZ's expertise in the area of insurance in the context of international conferences and workshops.
Your profile
  • Master in applied economics with a focus on finance or insurance; or a closely related field such as development economics, agricultural engineering or other fields of expertise for the management of disaster and agricultural risks
  • Specialization in at least one of the following topics: agricultural insurance, disaster risk insurance, retail microinsurance, regulation and supervision of insurance
  • Demonstrated project management skills, relationship management skills
  • Experience cooperating with emerging markets or developing countries, ideally in a consulting role
  • Demonstrated work experience in the private insurance sector and/or in the sector of development cooperation specialized in insurance
  • Willingness and ability to develop new initiatives and partnerships, as well as mobilizing additional funding resources for GIZ's work in the field of insurance
  • Very good analytical and communication skills
  • Fluency in English, both written and oral, required, German language skills are of advantage
