IDLO Deputy Director General for Global Programs

The International Development Law Organization (IDLO) is seeking a passionate, seasoned, entrepreneurial leader for the newly created position of Deputy Director General for Global Programs. Reporting to the Director General, the Deputy DG for Global Programs will serve as the #2 leader in the organizational structure and will be a central, contributing member of the IDLO Management Committee. S/he will partner with, and provide consultative support to the Director General and will be responsible for all aspects of IDLO’s global programs portfolio.  The Managing Director will oversee a 14-15 million euro budget and 7-10 direct reports.
The Organization
IDLO is the only inter-governmental organization with the sole mandate to promote the rule of law. Since its establishment in 1983, IDLO has worked with over 20,000 legal professionals in 175 countries. Its growing worldwide network, consisting of 47 independent alumni associations and a roster of 2,500 experts, gives the organization a unique opportunity to draw on expertise from around the world.  With its headquarters in Rome and a liaison office for the United Nations in New York, IDLO also has country offices in Afghanistan, Kenya, Kyrgyzstan, South Sudan, Somalia (based in Nairobi) and Tajikistan. IDLO has 27 active Member Parties and also benefits from the collective wisdom of prestigious International Advisory Council.

Qualifications



The Ideal Candidate
The ideal candidate will be a passionate, strategic leader committed to IDLO’s mission and to the rule of law. The successful candidate will be a results-driven, strong leader who has proven skills in change management - including growing and managing successful programs in high-risk environments. A compelling, transparent communicator, s/he will move quickly to establish respect, credibility and trust with the Director General, IDLO Management Committee, Member Parties, staff, donors and other stakeholders. This incoming Deputy DG for Global Programs will have strong international development credentials and be highly networked to drive resource development and international program development and expansion.
Additional Key Skills/Experience
The candidate should have a minimum of 15 years related work experience in relevant positions of increasing scope and responsibility. S/he must possess excellent people skills, integrity, credibility, and a heartfelt commitment to IDLO’s mission.  Substantial leadership experience working for an international NGO, United Nations, or bilateral organization/ company in a similar capacity is highly desired. An advanced degree in law, development, international relations, business, or a related field is required. Fluency in English is essential. Good knowledge of French is highly desirable.
