Research Assistant, Global Health

ONE is a campaign and advocacy organisation backed by over three million people from around the world and every walk of life who are committed to the fight against extreme poverty and preventable disease, particularly in Africa. We hold world leaders to account for promises made, and we press them to support policies in development policy and finance, transparency and governance. We also work with leaders in Africa to support greater democracy, accountability and transparency. ONE operates from Berlin, Brussels, Johannesburg, London, Paris and Washington DC.
We are looking for a Research Assistant with a global health focus to join our team. The Research Assistant will work as part of the global policy team to provide the most up-to-date research and analysis available on issues key to ONE’s mission, specifically in several areas of global health, including: HIV/AIDS, malaria,  maternal and child health, and health financing mechanisms.  The Research Assistant will also work closely with ONE’s teams across Europe, on health issues in support of ONE’s advocacy and campaigning goals.
The ideal candidate will be a great team player who is sympathetic to ONE’s issues and is able to handle a varied and fast paced role. S/he is familiar with international development issues and has a strong and demonstrable interest in Africa.
Reports to: Policy Director, Global Health.
Location: This position will be based in any one of our European offices (Berlin, Brussels, London, or Paris)
Principal duties and responsibilities
• Develop and maintain relationships with health stakeholders, technical agencies, and financing mechanisms  across Europe, with a particular emphasis on The Global Fund and The GAVI Alliance
• Contribute research and writing assistance on global health policy issues in support of briefing materials, campaign documents, blogs, and health reports
• Attend policy relevant seminars, workshops, and community discussions, and consolidate relevant information for consumption by the policy team
• Represent ONE at meetings and conferences on health policy topics, as needed
• Maintain health issue briefs and a health fact database, ensuring that they include the most up-to-date information available for the organization
• Read and digest relevant policy reports and media coverage of specific issues and provide summary analysis on content and tone
• Any other duties as appropriate to the role
Skills and competencies required for the role:
• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent required, preferably in public health,  international affairs, public policy, or a development-related field
• Demonstrable familiarity with The Global Fund, The GAVI Alliance, and associated advocacy campaigns
• Excellent research, writing, and analytical skills
• Ability to work in a fast paced environment with shifting priorities, global colleagues, and occasional heavy workloads
• Ability to synthesise certain policy documents with eye to key points and relevance to ONE
• Skilled at seeking out key statistics and narratives that help explain complicated policy topics to broad audiences
• Generally very well-organised with a proven ability to multi-task and prioritize
• Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work effectively in a team environment.
• Previous work experience in Africa and/or international development a plus
• Flexible, resourceful and innovative
• Excellent English, with fluent French or German as appropriate to location.
