DIRECTOR: STUDENT ETHICS AND JUDICIAL SERVICES

The position reports to the Executive Director: Student Affairs.

The Division of Student Ethics and Judicial Services at UJ is responsible for Judicial Services, information and case management and reporting, operational management, ethics development and promotion amongst students.

The incumbent will be responsible for: • Strategic and operational management within the unit • Staff and student management • Staff management and support • Policy development • Staff and student development • Researching and benchmarking best practices in Student Ethics and Judicial Services • Managing staff with regard to career development, skills development, performance and appointments.

Requirements: • A minimum of 10 years’ work-related experience of which 5 years must have been at senior level • A minimum of 5 years’ experience within a Student Affairs environment • A post-graduate degree or equivalent • Proven experience in a higher education environment • Knowledge and understanding of legal principles • The ability to understand and interact with students • Policy development and review • Case management • Information management and dissemination (including evaluation and research) • Staff and student management and development • Managing of finances and physical facilities • Management and administration of disciplinary cases.

Recommendations: • A qualification that includes legal studies • Experience in Student Affairs and Judicial Services • Knowledge of/experience in disciplinary hearings.

The successful candidate must display the following competencies: • Interpersonal and human relationship skills • Written and verbal communication skills • Analytical and problem-solving skills • Conflict management and negotiation skills • Planning, organising and leading skills • Diversity management • Computer literacy in MS Office packages.
