CIMMYT Laboratory Assistant

We are seeking a dynamic, innovative, self-motivated, and service-orientated professional for the position of Laboratory Assistant under the Global Maize Program.

The position will be based at CIMMYT’s Main Campus (located 45 km northeast of Mexico City, Mexico) but will interact with all CIMMYT´s experimental stations and regional office (country and world-wide) on a regular basis.

Specific responsibilities of this position will include:

• Laboratory analysis that requires the use of techniques and specialized equipment according to specifications outlined by immediate supervisor (spectrophotometry, HPLC, ICP).  Record and report all the activities performed.
• Report to the immediate supervisor abnormal situations that arise in the developing of assigned work, for immediate correction.
• Collaboration in various lab activities such as: grinding, sample preparation, application and preparation of reagents, warehouse organization of samples and reagents.
• Cleaning and preventive maintenance of the lab instruments, equipment and other specific areas.
• Perform any other tasks and assignments related to the program/project, as required by the supervisor.

We are seeking candidates with the following qualification, skills and attitudes: Essential

• Minimum of High School studies, technical laboratory formation will be ideal.
• Minimum of 2 years experience in a similar position.
• Extensive practice in the management of lab instruments and reagents.
• Good computer knowledge (Microsoft Office Suite).
• Working level of English.
• Applicant must be organized, responsible, punctual, honest and have extensive capacity of observation and analysis. Selected candidate will also have a good sense of initiative, attitude of service and good teamwork, and have the ability and liking for multi-tasking.
• Selected candidate should be able to travel for work reasons.

Desirable

• Knowledge and experience in good laboratory practices.
