ABA ROLI is a non-profit program that implements legal reform programs in roughly 60 countries around the world. ABA ROLI has nearly 700 professional staff working abroad and in its Washington, D.C. office. ABA ROLI’s host country partners include judges, lawyers, bar associations, law schools, court administrators, legislatures, ministries of justice and a wide array of civil society organizations, including human rights groups.
Job Summary:
The ABA Rule of Law Initiative is currently seeking an intern for its Middle East and North Africa Division, based in Washington, DC. The intern will support a project focusing on refugee issues in Jordan, Lebanon, Turkey, Syria, and Iraq.
Responsibilities:
-Send daily briefs on developments in above mentioned countries, especially as they relate to Syrian refugees;
-Report on activities of other refugee assistance organizations, such as UNHCR;
-Summarize control risks and news articles related to refugees in the Levant.
Qualifications:
-Proficiency in Arabic (ability to read news articles);
-Graduate or undergraduate student in Middle East studies, politics, or similar field;
-Strong writing and analytical skills;
-Knowledge of Levantine history and politics, as well as refugee issues.
