OBJECTIVES OF THE PROGRAMME :
To expand the implementation of the Stop TB strategy and strengthen disease control by: applying effective strategies and policies, including those related to co-infection and multi-drug resistance; increasing the involvement of communities, health-care providers, nongovernmental organizations and corporate partners, through increased country support and strong partnerships; and to strengthen surveillance, monitoring and evaluation.
Description of duties:
o To provide technical support to Ministries of Health and provincial health authorities with the aim of strengthening the national capacity for control of tuberculosis and leprosy;
o Specifically, to support the Ministries of Health in:
- the development of technical guidelines, training materials, standard operating procedures, and implementation tools for TB control in line with international guidelines and best practices;
- preparation of comprehensive plans for implementation of the Stop TB strategy nationwide and identify resource and human resource requirements;
- introduction and scale-up Multi Drug-Resistant TB and TB/HIV collaborative activities, including design and implementation of surveillance, training, monitoring and supervision;
- operational research needs and assisting to implement operational research, as required;
- the implementation, reporting, monitoring, reviewing and evaluation of the national tuberculosis programme;
o To promote the involvement of faith-based hospitals and clinics, nongovernmental organizations and the private medical practice in tuberculosis control are based on Stop TB strategy and in line with national policies, and in coordination with the national tuberculosis programme;
o To collaborate with the Ministries of Health, the international agencies and other partners in:
- the estimation, tender procedures, procurement, distribution and quality assurance of anti-tuberculosis medicines and other required supplies;
- organization and training on control of tuberculosis and leprosy;
- regular sharing of information on progress in the implementation of the Stop TB strategy and activities;
o To perform any other duties as may be required.

Expected specific outputs/outcomes:
o Reduction of transmission of tuberculosis in the Pacific island countries and areas through implementation of Stop TB Strategy.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
Education:
Essential requirement is a medical degree from a recognized university with postgraduate degree/training in public health.
Skills: 
o Knowledge of the specific or technical area of public health;
o Ability to contribute to the development of norms and standards, as well as training materials;
o Capacity to plan and conduct operational activities with political and technical elements;
o Proficient in standard MS Office software applications. Presentation skills.
o Ability to establish harmonious working relationships as part of a team, adapt to diverse educational and cultural backgrounds, and maintain a high standard of personal conduct;
o Ability to demonstrate gender equity and cultural appropriateness in the delivery of services to member States.

Experience:
Seven to ten years of working experience in planning and implementation of TB control programme at national and sub-national levels in developing countries is essential. Technical expertise in tuberculosis control at national level with working experience in the Pacific would be an asset.
Languages:
Written and spoken fluency in English is essential. Working knowledge of other UN languages is an advantage.

Annual salary: (Net of tax)
USD67 483 at single rate
USD72 467 with primary dependants
Post Adjustment: 41.4 % of the above figure(s). This percentage is to be considered as indicative since variations may occur each month either upwards or downwards due to currency exchange rate fluctuations or inflation.
