Our business

The Conflict, Humanitarian & Security Department's Operations Team (CHASE OT) is contracted through Crown Agents by the Department of International Development (DFID) and the Stabilisation Unit (SU) to provide support services and an operational team delivering advice and assistance on humanitarian disasters and emergencies.

CHASE OT would like to recruit two paid interns to support the Humanitarian Deployments and the Stabilisation Deployments teams. The intern would spend 3 months in each team, supporting the identification and deployments of experts into the field or HQ. This internship represents a unique opportunity for the successful candidates to gain an insight into the way in which DFID and the SU utilise the expertise available to them to make a real difference into the lives of the most vulnerable. Working in a small team, under high pressure, in the immediate aftermath of a natural disaster or conflict provides unrivalled challenges and learning opportunities.

Role and responsibilities include:

The primary purpose of this role is to support the deployment, management and demobilisation of staff to UK and overseas deployments, on behalf of the conflict and humanitarian department and also the stabilisation unit. Key responsibilities include:
  • Supporting and coordinating the deployment process of contracting, preparation (medicals, equipment etc), induction and travel.
  • Arranging travel plans for deployed staff and consultants (flights, visa's hotels)
  • Maintaining records, of leave, attendance, R&R
  • Liaison with the CHASE OT logistics team regarding issue and return of equipment to deploying staff and consultants
  • Payment of expenses and invoices for deployed staff and consultants
  • Providing ongoing administrative operational support to deployed individuals
  • Supporting the demobilisation process of returning deployed individuals
Qualifications, skills and experience
  • Educated to A'level
  • Significant experience working in a fast-paced professional environment
  • Demonstrable experience of providing efficient administrative support
  • Exceptional organisational, prioritisation and interpersonal skills
  • Experience of working in a humanitarian or government context
  • Experience of working with project budget and staff contracts would be an advantage
