IFRS FOUNDATION – ADVISORY COUNCIL CHAIR

The IFRS Foundation, through its standard-setting body, the International Accounting Standards Board (IASB), is the body responsible for developing a single set of high quality global accounting standards for use throughout the world.  The primary objective of the Advisory Council is to provide a forum where the IASB and the Trustees consults individuals and representatives of organisations that are affected by its work and are committed to the development of high quality International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRSs).

The Trustees of the IFRS Foundation are seeking applications for the role of Chair of the IFRS Advisory Council, after the term of its current Chair expires at the end of 2013. 

THE OBJECTIVE OF THE ADVISORY COUNCIL

(a)   give advice to the IASB on agenda decisions and priorities in the IASB’s work,
(b)   inform the IASB of the views of the organisations and individuals on the Council on major standard-setting projects and
(c)   give other advice to the IASB or the IFRS Foundation Trustees.

THE ROLE

The Chair of the Advisory Council is actively involved in setting the agenda for the Advisory Council meetings, and chairs all of them. The Chair reports to the Trustees and the IASB after each meeting. The Chair is usually consulted during the appointment process of the Advisory Council members. The Trustees invite the Chair of the Advisory Council to attend and participate, periodically, in the Trustees’ meetings and meetings of the Due Process Oversight Committee as appropriate.

Ideal Experience

• Strong leadership and influencing skills, demonstrated by previous experience.
• An understanding of financial reporting, IFRS in particular, and its broad implications globally and nationally. 
• Experience in International work including political, diplomatic and cultural aspects – demonstrated experience of working constructively with a very wide range of international and national bodies.
• Experience of working in a collegial environment with a globally diverse team where the Chair has to provide leadership and build consensus.

• Practical and pragmatic, balanced and open-minded, able to work in a dynamic environment.
• A commitment to public service.
• Fluency in the English language
• Strong communication skills to assist with the promotion of global IFRSs
• Capacity to devote sufficient time to the duties of the Chair.
